maccabiyah day

Our Phys Ed specialists did a wonderful job organizing last week's Maccabiyah Day. The fact that the weather cooperated was an added bonus. Team Moshe took the lead with 18,500, followed by Team Devorah with 17,800. In third and fourth places were Team David (13,500) and Team Esther (13,300). Special mention to Art Zhang for the stunning photos!

mvp ceremony
Our Grade 7 students concluded their teen philanthropy (MVP) program on Wednesday with the remarkable Ceremony of Giving (in the Beth Israel sanctuary) where 25 non-profit received allocations worth a total of $21,000, all raised by these students and their families. Special thanks to VTT parent, Michelle Gilman, for motivating and inspiring the grade to contribute funds, and to Todd Monge and Tirzah Abraham in our development office for supporting the program from behind the scenes.

torah celebration
As per our tradition, 2A and 2B students delighted families and friends at their Torah celebration earlier this week. The highlight? Three quarters of the presentation was conducted "rak b'ivrit" (only in Hebrew). Special thanks to Carol Nest and Natasha Greensite for their support with the Torah cover surprise.

band
If you were to count the hours of actual practice time, you'd discover that our Junior and Senior Bands actually have very few hours of monthly rehearsal time. Nevertheless, under the capable leadership of Band Director, Jim Hopson, both bands made substantial progress this year. Kudos to the parents and students for supporting the arts!

VTT ALUM MAKES TALMUD TORAH PROUD!

We are proud to announce that Photography and Birding award winner and VTT class of 2013 Alumni, Liron Gertsman, will be exhibiting his bird photography at the Pendulum gallery in the HSBC building in downtown Vancouver (885 West Georgia) from August 10 to August 22.  His exhibit sales will be benefiting his MVP agency of choice, the Stanley Park Ecology Society.  All of VTT's community (past and present) is welcome and invited to view the exhibit, free of charge, on any of the exhibit days.  If you are interested in attending a reception night at which Liron will be speaking about his passion for birding and photography, please email Keren Gertsman at kgertsman@shaw.ca.  The reception is at the gallery on August 13 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  RSVP is required.  Check out Liron's website and blog at http://lironsnaturephotography.com/ to preview his work.
