As we conclude Term II, we wish to thank our entire VTT community--faculty, staff, Board of Directors, custodians, parents, students, grandparents and friends--a relaxing Passover break. May the time with family and friends remind us of the wonderful freedoms we enjoy!
Our students have spent the last two days conducting class Seders. They have acquired much knowledge and have enthusiasm, ideas and LOTS OF QUESTIONS (essential to a proper Passover Seder) to contribute at their own family Seders. Include them as much as you can. You'll be delighted and surprised by their abilities.
Many of our classes held their Seders in our desert tent in the gym. This awesome feat was made possible through the vision of Shoshana Burton with much technical and logistical support from Sydney Antao and his trusty custodial team. We also wish to thank Dina Sacks for the incredible displays and artwork and Shannon Ezekiel and Jordana Dodek for co-chairing this holidays. Dozens of parents spent Sunday afternoon boiling eggs, chopping celery and slicing apples. A big thank you to all of them and to the many parents who helped out at the class Seders. Finally, todah rabah to Rabbi Berger from King David High School who guest starred as Moses at many of the Seders.
Though it's hard to make out in the above photo, the gym was beautifully transformed into a tent in the desert for some of the class Passover Seders.
LITTLE MERMAID JR. -- FOUR SOLD OUT SHOWS!!!
Kudos to our spectacularly talented and visionary duo of Keri Smith (director) and Elana Jacobson (musical director) for staging--yet another--smash hit! For the first time ever, we had four consecutive sold out shows! No one could believe it was 10-13 year-olds performing. Their poise, maturity and confidence was well beyond their years. And let's not forget about ALL THAT TALENT!
Special thanks to VTT parent and UBC computational geoscience and math professor, Eldad Haber, for showing sixth graders how electromagnetism is used in many practical applications: finding old explosive devices, discovering resources like oil and minerals underground, and in medical imaging.
Our Grade 4 Shorashim students also raised $500! In the photo above, they are Skyping with the beneficiary of their fundraising drive, Carrie Feldstein, a VTT alum who suffers from cystic fibrosis and recently received a double lung transplant. The money will help Carrie and his family (wife and twin girls) while he slowly recovers from his major surgery.
Passover would not be complete without the annual Preschool & Kindergarten field trips to the matzah bake factory at Chabad.
This week, we wrapped up our Yachad unit on manners and learned the appropriate ways to behave in class, on the playground and with friends and adults, thanks to Grade 1. See the photos here.
Pan Zhao of the "Let's Talk Science" program taught Grade 5 students about the skeletal system. Students then had an opportunity create their own movable hands using strings, straws and cardboard.
Today, Grade 5 students shared their "fractured fairy tales" with their Kindergarten buddies.
