HAPPY TU B'SHEVAT!

A special thank you to our ever talented and creative parent, Dina Sacks, for helping us celebrate Tu B'Shevat, the birthday (new year) for trees. The trees on the left were hand glued by our Kindergarten students. For the large tree on the right, students wrote positive and affirming environmental messages on paper leaves and then hung them from the branches.

Glee Club

Many members of VTT's Glee Club performed at Wednesday evening's JNF event hosting former Israeli Ambassador to the UN Dan Gillerman. Many thanks to Melody Gibson, Advah Soudak and Art Zhang for coaching and supporting them.

DID YOU KNOW OUR STUDENTS' WON JNF'S TREE CARD CAMPAIGN CONTEST?

JNF contest

Magic happens when students work together!

The piece above represents the work of JNF and Jewish communities.

Each student in the class created a mandala of their own which was added to a tree and background to become a collaborative work. With the guidance of Dina Sacks, the students were given the opportunity to express themselves individually and also to work as a community. This gave them a voice and sense of inclusion in the ongoing task of building the Jewish land--a symbol of our unity as a people!

SCHOOL NEWS
shoe us
Thank you VTT community! Our Grade 6 Chesed Club collected over 800 pairs of shoes from all of you to benefit Ruben's Shoes, an organization working to distribute shoes to disadvantaged students in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. A decent pair of shoes will allow them to go to school which will inevitably create more opportunities and hope for the future for these students. VTT--you really "shoed us what you've got!"

granola
We are very grateful to Ella & Marat Dreyshner of ikosherbake.com for spending two days at Talmud Torah making no bake granola with all our students in honour of Tu B'Shevat. The granola incorporated some of the seven species fruit and was, of course, nut-free!

Tu B'Shevat
Kindergarten students listen intently as questions related to Tu B'Shevat are read aloud at their Seder. Special thanks to Morah Ellen for leading the ritual fruit celebration in gratitude for trees that nourish and sustain us.

We love hosting VTT alumni! Thank you, Noah Bogdonov, for visiting with our Grade 7 students on Thursday and telling them about his experience participating in the March of the Living program. He is currently spending a gap year in Israel. Noah is home from to celebrate his brother, Ben's, Bar Mitzvah this weekend. Mazal tov!

grade 2
Grade 2 students proudly presented their collection of socks, toothbrushes and toothpaste to Marnie Greenwald, a volunteer with JFSA. Two students hold their Certificate of Appreciation in the background.

flower art
It's looking like spring in the halls of VTT! Between the gorgeous Tu B'Shevat display and the huge paper flowers designed and created by Grade 6 students (inspired by Georgia O'Keefe), spring feels imminent!

Read the latest article on VTT parent, Jazmin Sasky: Vanncouver Artist, Jazmin Sasky Paints Women's Stories With A Compassionate Brush

What does it take to make a home?
That is the question local artist (and VTT parent) Jazmin Sasky asked single mothers. The result is the heartfelt "Home is Love" exhibit, a window into tales of hardship, hope, love and inspiration. The artwork will support the YWCA Cause we Care House, a new housing community with 21 long-term units for low-income single mothers and their children. VTT is invited to the opening reception!
