SCHOOL NEWS

There were some very happy students as the Strathcona raffle results were unveiled at Wednesday's assembly. Mazal tov to Eva Dobrovolska for selling 100 tickets and raising $1,000, Keren Katz for selling 75 tickets and raising $750 and to Sam Weinstein-Smith for supporting the Grade 7 outdoor education program. All these students won iPad minis for their efforts. The raffle could not have succeeded with the generosity of our many donors and without the hard work and dedication of the following individuals: Todd Monge, Tirzah Abraham, Marina Steeves, Lisa Boroditsky, Elana Epstein, Marla Guralnick and Michelle Pollock and the many student and parent ticket seller. Todah rabah to all! See photos from the raffle draw here Grade 7 students were awed and inspired to meet Jessica Kruger, a quadriplegic who suffered a traumatic accident at age 15. Despite her many physical challenges, Jessica holds down three jobs, is the only female on BC's provincial wheelchair rugby team (also known as "murderball"), has travelled the world, bunjee jumped and skydived, was selected to be cosmetics giant Lise Watier's first-ever quadriplegic model, and even owns a side cake decorating (and jewelry) business. Amazing she finds the time for her boyfriend and friends . . Happiness, in her powerful words, is mind over matter! She has chosen to make the most of her life and to live it to the fullest. Amen to that! Congratulations to the winners of the first round of the Geography Challenge. Stay tuned for info on Round 2. Grade 4 Isaac Henry Yair Infeld

It's never too early for basketball practice! Seventh grade students arrive at Douglas Park at 7:30 a.m. every Friday morning to hone their hoop skills. This week they beat St. Augustine's and lost to McBride Elementary. Their current season record is 2-2.
Preschool 3 students get a kick out of their new gel ant farm. The insects are actually growing right in front of their very own magnifying glasses!

| Thank you to Morah Ronit Shor, on maternity leave this year, for creating the Grade 2 Yachad Assembly video. It's great to have her support despite her absence this year. Thank you, as well, to Simone Wilson, our challah coordinator, and our new Ru'ach Reps who helped spread the message about our PAC challah program. Their outreach exceeded our 50 challah goal. Finally, Dina Sacks, artist and craftsperson extraordinaire, has led some wonderful Tu B'Shevat art projects for our students. Todah Rabah!
