Dear VTT Families,
This morning we had a visit from the City of Vancouver traffic department to observe our parkade operations. We are pleased to report that the traffic engineers were more than satisfied with our team of flaggers and our management of the flow of vehicular traffic. The engineers were further impressed by our sixth grade volunteers who assist us early in the morning and at the end of the day to ensure everyone enters and exits the parkade with caution and care.
Now that we've had several weeks of practice, we will be closing the 26th Avenue original drive thru from next Monday, October 6th, 2014. Everyone must now use the parkade for drop off and pick up. Angie will still be our crossing guard for pedestrians, but the 26th Avenue drive thru will be CLOSED! Our front door at 26th Avenue currently remains open for pedestrian traffic only.
Just so you know . . .
- Signage and mirrors have been ordered to make navigating the drive-thru even easier.
- Stalls will soon be painted identifying VTT vs BI stalls. Please do not park in Beth Israel spots. You will risk being ticketed or towed.
Tips for a safe and efficient parkade drive thru experience:
- In the morning, arrive a little earlier. The parkade is quiet before 8:15 a.m. Coming a little bit before allows you quick entry and exit.
- In the afternoon, arrive a little later. School is dismissed at 3:20. By the time students collect their belongings, say goodbye to their friends, and make their way to the parkade, it is almost 3:30. By coming later, you reduce the amount of congestion in the parkade.
- Listen to the people directing traffic. They know what they are doing. They also want to keep everyone safe and keep the traffic flowing. Please respect their directions.
- SLOW DOWN! There are flaggers, parents, children and BI members all walking to and from cars in the parkade. Please proceed slowly and cautiously. We must all be aware and care for each other.
