RAC RACE Reaps Rewards

Did you know that one of every four people in Metro Vancouver say that they are lonely?Last Sunday, VTT's Class of 2015, joined by family members and friends, participated in a RAC (Random Acts of Chesed) Race in an effort to help ease some of the pain and loneliness in our midst. The auspicious timing occurred during the Ten Days of Teshuva, between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, to tip the scales in their favour during the Days of Awe. | Logo design by Natalya Kucherenko |
With ten teams totaling 160 participants, the goal was to build community and create a sense of connection with others through humor and generosity. Teams were tasked to find opportunities to perform mitzvot (by, for example, replenishing expired parking meters, carrying people's groceries, offering free hugs, spontaneously dancing with strangers, etc.) throughout Greater Vancouver. Each group documented their outreach efforts. The teams will compile their images and videos into a final product which will be screened at the 1st Annual RACademy & Havdallah service on Saturday, November 1st. As parent Elana Epstein observed, "One is never too young to learn how to give and be a part of something bigger than ourselves. What a wonderful afternoon of giving and sharing. Grade Seven--you were wonderful examples of Chesed!" The day is best summed up by parent Lisa Boroditsky, "It was so wonderful to see the kids connecting to strangers, interacting with community and spreading kindness. After all the laughs, hugs and smiles our group received, we feel like we made a few people happier today!" We are indebted to the following individuals and organizations for their tremendous support: Jeff & Dina Sacks & Family for sponsoring the t-shirts; Sarah Schaffer for soliciting donations; Translink for the bus passes; Safeway for the shopping bags and gift card; and Starbucks for the coffee packets.

ROSH HASHANA AT TALMUD TORAH
This is one album you'll definitely want to look at! VTT parent and artist Dina Sacks worked with students in multiple grades to create a beautiful gallery of Rosh Hashana-themed art. Students blew their shofarot, staged a holiday skit, sang Tal Am songs and surprised everyone with a flash mob at the Rosh Hashana assembly. Click this link to view the photos. Some Grade 6 students surprised their peers at the assembly with a flash mob (thanks to Ms. Smith for the choreography. Earth Savers Club would be happy to take care of it for you. FLASHBACK FRIDAY: Can anyone identify any of the individuals in the above photo? Looks like a science class, circa 1970s. Doesn't appear uniforms were worn at VTT back then. Send your answers to info@talmudtorah.comOur sixth grade traffic volunteers got some helpful hints from the City of Vancouver traffic engineers on how best to direct and manage the flow of vehicles in our new parkade. Please keep your eyes open for these eager traffic "jammers" and drive SLOWLY & WITH CAUTION!

THANK YOU, ELANA EPSTEIN!
For almost 10 years, we have been blessed to have VTT parent, Elana Epstein, teach after school yoga to groups of loyal and dedicated students. Due to low registration this term, this is the first time we have had to cancel her class. The end of yoga with Elana marks the end of an era at VTT. We are very grateful to Elana for her energy, spirit, warmth and love all these years. Todah Rabah!
