Remembering the 8 Year Anniversary of Katrina
August 29, 2005 - August 29, 2013
Hope, who was rescued in the Katrina aftermath, still calls our sanctuary home.
As we remember the heartbreak of Katrina today, we are saddened by thoughts of suffering and of lives lost, but we are more hopeful than ever for the future. Soon we will be moving operations to a new sanctuary in Mount Hermon, and we will finally turn the page on the storm at last.
Still, although it's been eight long years, Katrina's legacy is with us every day. In Tylertown, at our original Camp Katrina disaster relief shelter, we are still caring for close to 100 Katrina survivors. More than 1800 Katrina animals moved through our facility and on to reunions, foster homes and adoptive families. Some rescued cats and dogs, however, were feral or had special needs, which made their adoption difficult or impossible.
These animals survived Katrina against all odds. From the beginning, we committed to their care, when donors contributed so generously and volunteers worked so hard to save them. We've been providing them with love and shelter at our Katrina Survivors Sanctuary ever since the storm.
While Katrina recovery and relief left the headlines many years ago, we're still quietly making a difference for some of the animals who suffered most. If you can, please make a DONATION to our Katrina Survivors Sanctuary today, in honor of the storm's anniversary. Katrina animals like Stu, Hope, Jazzy and Isis will thank you for it! Of course, we are still eager to adopt any of the remaining animals we can, if we can find the right placements for them. Please contact us at info@humanela.org, if you would like to provide a home to one of our senior Katrina pets.
