We just rescued a severely neglected dog named Diamond
from an ordeal that nearly took her life.

Diamond 2

Diamond belonged to a young man, who was kicked out of his mother's home.  He left his poor dog tied up by the back door with a filthy water bucket and never came back for her. Even though Diamond was staked out right by the back door and apparently barked incessantly for food for a month, the mother did nothing to help her.  In fact, the woman only called animal control because the dog had "stopped barking".  Heartlessness seems to run in families.

Diamond 1

Our Shelter Manager, Jessica Cameron, managed to get custody of Diamond and take her to our vet.  The sweet girl is recovering now from her ordeal, eating small meals and taking lots of vitamins.  She will need to be treated for heartworms when she regains her strength.

Starvation probably wasn't the only torment that poor Diamond endured.  She is very fearful, keeping her tail between her legs and peeing on herself when anyone approaches.  She cowers and doesn't make eye contact with people. We are hopeful that lots of tender love and care will teach Diamond that not all humans are monsters.  We are of course pursuing this as a criminal case and will keep you updated on our progress.

If you would like to contribute towards Diamond's care and rehabilitation and to support our work to fight cruelty and neglect, please DONATE here.  We can only respond to heartbreaking cases of animal abuse like these with your support.
