South Africa's premier surveying, geospatial and mapping gathering, Geomatics Indaba 2016, will be officially opened by the Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Hon. Gugile Nkwinti, who will also address the delegates. Minister Nkwinti has Bachelor of Administration in political science, public administration and applied economics from UNISA, and a Masters Degree in public policy and management from the University of London

Mr. Mmuso Riba, Chief Surveyor-General of South Africa, and chairman of the South African Geomatics Council, will address the issue of "Geomatics skills and technologies: Growing professionals to secure our future", which is the theme of this year's annual gathering of the South African geomatics industry. Mr. Riba has holds a BSc Degree in Maths and Chemistry and a BSc in Surveying from the University of Cape Town. He is a Professional Land Surveyor as well as a Sectional Titles Practitioner. He is also a board member of SANSA and chairman of the Committee for Spatial Information.

Statistician General Mr. Pali Lehohla will be speaking on the topic of spatial data, place and addresses and the vital role that these can play in facilitating South Africa's economic development and the well-being of its citizens. He is the chair of the Africa Symposium for Statistical Development (ASSD), a country led initiative which aims to put statistical evidence at the centre of policy in Africa. Mr. Lehohla is also chair for the Sub-Group on Harmonisation of Statistics in Africa.

Dr. Hussein Farah, Director General of the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) based in Nairobi, Kenya, will be speaking about the work of his intergovernmental organisation, its current projects and goals. Dr. Farah has a PhD in Water Resources Surveys from the University of Wageningen and the International Institute for Aerospace Surveys and Earth Sciences in The Netherlands. He also holds a Master's in Geography from the University of Waterloo, Canada and a BSc in Surveying and Photogrammerty from the University of Nairobi.
Mr. Rob Mahoney from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) will be speaking on the future of the geomatics profession and how to prepare for the challenges ahead. Mr. Mahoney has extensive experience in the management of land information, and land registration (cadastre) systems, together with the associated technologies and business processes. He has held positions on a number of national and international committees.
Geocoding expert Mr. Gary Gale, Chief Technology Officer for What3words will be talking about geocoding, mapping and the latest trends. Mr. Gale has worked for the BBC World Service, the European Space Agency and Reuters. He has also held the positions of Director of Engineering for Yahoo! Geotechnologies; Director of Places for Ovi, Nokia and HERE Maps; Geotechnologist-in-residence for Lokku, founding the OpenCage geocoder; and prior to joining What3words, he was Head of APIs for the UK's Ordnance Survey.
