FIELD TRAINING DAY: 14 SEPTEMBER 2016

and EE Publishers are pleased to announce an exciting line-up of activities at the first Geomatics Indaba 2016 Field Training Day for surveyors, GIS, mapping, photogrammetry and remote sensing practitioners.

The GI 2016 Field Training Day will be held on 14 September 2016 at the Transnet School of Rail, Esselenpark Campus, about 15-minute drive from OR Tambo Airport and Emperors Palace.

The Transnet School of Rail, Esselenpark Campus, is a unique training site with:
  • High-quality indoor training, lecture and exhibition facilities.Use of the Transnet Railway Training School by special permission (personal protective equipment required i.e. reflective vest and safety boots). 
  • Outdoor field training area with construction training facilities, including demo railway tracks and power lines, underground assets, pipes, cables, and more.
  • UAV/RPAS take-off and flying area for ROC permit holders, for mapping of demo railway track, demo electric power lines and construction training site.
  • Several heritage buildings built by Italian prisoners or war, as well as historic building facades (such as the original Park Station), for scanning demonstrations.
A full day of field training events has been lined-up at no extra charge for exhibitors and delegates attending the Geomatics Indaba 2016 conference, exhibition and training event, including: 
  • Busses from Emperors Palace Convention Centre to Transnet School of Rail, departing 7.30 am and 8.30 am, plus ample secure parking for delegates with own transport.
  • Tea, coffee and confectionaries on arrival at Transnet School of Rail, from 8.00 am to 8.30 am.
  • Welcome, safety briefing and orientation lecture in the Main Auditorium, from 8.30 am to 9.00 am.
  • A series of morning and afternoon indoor training presentations in the Main Auditorium from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm, and from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm.
  • An outdoor display of geomatics field equipment, with practical demonstrations and training in real-life work settings, from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm, and from 2.00 pm to 4.00pm.
  • A series of outdoor field training events, from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm, and from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm (see below).
  • Rides in the Transnet train driver simulator training facility, from 9 am to 1 pm, and from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm.
  • Substantial braai lunch and refreshments, from 1.00 pm to 2.00 pm.
  • Networking cocktail party with hot and cold snacks and liquid refreshments, from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm. 
  • Busses back to Emperors Palace Convention Centre, departing 4.00 pm and 6.00 pm.
Some of the outdoor field training events will include:
  • Geo-caching training events.
  • Pointers for the set up and use of total stations and GPS receivers.
  • Use of surveying/geospatial equipment for asset capture.
  • Practical surveying exercises - levelling, survey control, traversing, etc.
  • Use of outdoor field data capture devices e.g. mobile GIS.
  • Use of surveying equipment in mining applications. 
  • Use of geospatial equipment to detect underground utilities e.g water pipes, gas lines.
  • Set up and use of UAVs in land surveying and mining applications.
  • Data streaming from UAVs into GIS and mapping software systems.
  • Scanning equipment and techniques for 3D modelling of power stations, plants, mines, opencast pits, buildings etc.
  • The data interface between field and office based GIS systems.
  • Use and applications of GIS in real world infrastructure applications.
  • Games testing knowledge of GIS coordinates capture and usage.

LATE BOOKING SURCHARGE DATE EXTENDED TO 31 AUGUST 2016

We are pleased to advise that the 10% late booking surcharge date for delegate registrations has been extended from 31 July 2016 to 31 August 2016.
For all delegate registrations received on or before 31 August 2016, the standard delegate fees will apply.

For all delegate registrations received after 31 August 2016, a 10% late booking surcharge will apply, and no further extensions will be granted. 

Therefore please book right away to save money.
