Researchers working in the surveying, geospatial, mapping and remote sensing fields are urged to submit their abstracts for the peer-reviewed academic track of Geomatics Indaba 2016 before 1 April 2016.
Background
Geomatics Indaba 2016 takes place from 2 to 4 August 2016 at Emperors Palace in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, and the theme for this year's Training Indaba is:
"Geomatics skills and technologies: Growing professionals to secure our future".
The peer-reviewed academic stream is chaired Fred Cawood, University of Witwatersrand (Mine surveying) with assistance from Gregory Breetze, University of Pretoria (GIS); Serena Coetzee, University of Pretoria (GIS); Julian Smit, University of Cape Town (GIS and photogrammetry); Aslam Parker, Department Rural Development and Land Reform (Land surveying); Raubie Raubenheimer, CPUT (Engineering surveying); and Chris Munyati, North West University (Remote sensing and GIS).
Special ICA Commission stream
The International Cartographic Association's Commission on Map Production and Geoinformation Management will also be hosting a special stream covering map production and geo-information management. This stream is chaired by Peter Schmitz, Chair: ICA Commission on Map Production and Geoinformation Management 2015-2019.

Authors and presenters are invited to submit peer-reviewed academic papers of approximately 5000 words (including tables, figures, and references) for presentation at the conference. Each paper will undergo rigorous double-blind peer-review to ensure high quality papers. Interested parties are requested to take note of the following important deadline dates:
- 1 April 2016: Submission of full-text research papers for peer-review close.
- 26 May 2016: Provisional acceptance of papers for the research track close.
- 15 June 2016: Submission of final full-text peer-reviewed research papers.
Papers will be selected on the basis of their merit, significance, relevance, correctness, originality and clarity following a double-blind peer-review process. A selection of papers will be published in the South African Journal of Geomatics (ISSN 2225-8531).
