GI 2015 News Update
    
Geomatics Indaba 2015 is set to be the highlight of the African geospatial industry calendar this year.
  
Organised by South Africa's professional geospatial bodies, the Geo-Information Society of South Africa (GISSA), the South African Geomatics Institute (SAGI), and the Institute of Mine Surveyors of Southern Africa (IMSSA), in partnership with EE Publishers, Geomatics Indaba 2015 will showcase the skills and expertise of the South African geomatics community.
  

High-level government representatives from the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, the Department of Science and Technology, the South African National Space Agency, the Department of Finance, Statistics South Africa, the Departments of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, SALGA, MISA, and the South African Civil Aviation Authority will also be participating in the conference.

In addition, four International experts will share their expertise and how it relates to the conference theme:

  

"Developing spatial technologies and skills 
for strategic infrastructure planning"
       

Dr. Charles Toth, research professor from Ohio State University, who will be presenting a workshop on the performance of sensors with respect to the main remote sensing platforms, and as well as trends in the industry.





    

Dr. Carl Reed, recently retired as chief technology officer and executive director of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). He is currently consulting with a focus on supporting the IT community in the effective use of geospatial standards.




 
    

Mr. Kees de Zeeuw, director of Kadaster International at the Cadastre, Land Registry and Mapping Agency (Kadaster) of The Netherlands. Kadaster International provides worldwide advisory services in the domain of land administration, e-governance, geo-information services and SDI. 


 

    

Prof. Dorota Grejner-Brzezinska, president of the Institute of Navigation and the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) Commission, and professor and chair of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geodetic Engineering, and Director of the Satellite Positioning and Inertial Navigation (SPIN) Laboratory at Ohio State University.

 



 

The GI 2015 conference, exhibition and training event has a packed programme over three days (11, 12 and 13 August 2015), and features:

There will also be an exciting side event on 10 August 2015, namely the GI 2015 UAV Airshow, where 10 exhibitors will demonstrate and fly their latest surveying UAVs. Four flight simulators will be provided to enable delegates to get an experience of flying the UAVs themselves.
