Announcement and call for papers
This announcement and call for papers and speakers is issued on behalf of IDC Technologies. Due to the success of its high voltage conferences in Australia and New Zealand, IDC Technologies is bringing to South Africa the

High Voltage Conference

DATE: 18 and 19 September 2013
TIME: 08h00 to 17h00
VENUE: Midrand Conference Centre

This conference and the subject matter covered will be of special interest to the electrical engineering community of South Africa, as regulators are demanding continual improvement in performance and safety outcomes in this area.

The High Voltage Conference is based around IEC and IEEE HV standards, which provide minimum requirements for the design and installation of high voltages above 1 kV (ac) so as to provide safe functioning and operation. A high voltage installation can range from a substation, auxiliary systems, interconnecting cables/lines and naturally the user's facilities such a plant, factory, office facility and mine site. Equipment includes switchgear, transformers, converters, cables, lines, batteries, earthing systems, capacitors, reactors, buildings and structures.

SUBJECT MATTER

The subject matter of conference papers and presentations will address:
  • High voltage safety
  • High voltage standards and regulations
  • High voltage power system protection
  • Electrical systems, earthing and bonding

SPEAKERS

IDC Technologies is looking for additional speakers for this conference - electrical engineers, technologists or technicians working on high voltage systems in mining, process plant, industry, oil and gas or utilities sectors.

  • Learn about new industry developments and equipment including switchgear, transformers, cables and converters.
  • Hear case studies and real life examples from the South African electrical industry.
  • Look at complex power system faults under various operating conditions.
  • Learn how to use KPI's to measure the performance of an HV electrical network.
  • Discuss the demands on operations and maintenance teams to ensure effective HSE procedures ensuring compliance to legislation, quality of supply and minimal energy loss.
  • Address the developments and demands on HV testing methods and the design of insulation systems.

SUPPORTED BY

The High Voltage Conference is currently supported by speakers from:

Eskom, Walmet Technologies, ETAP, St James Software, Vaal University of Technology, RPS Switchgear, CityPower and Anytech.
