LINE-UP OF INTERNATIONAL KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

South African Surveying + Geomatics Indaba 2013, are pleased to announce the line-up of confirmed international keynote speakers for the geospatial event of 2013, as follows:

Geoff Zeiss, principal consultant at Between the Poles Consulting

Geoff ZeissGeoff Zeiss will talk on how geospatial information technology is enabling vertical industry solutions and a more holistic approach to the major challenges of increased urbanisation.

Geoff Zeiss has more than 20 years experience in the geospatial software industry and 15 years experience working with utilities, communications, and public works in enterprise geospatial IT. For the past ten years he was responsible for thought leadership for the utility industry program at Autodesk. Prior to joining Autodesk, Geoff led software development at Vision Solutions where he led a software development team that implemented some of the largest successful implementations of location-aware integrated design and records management enterprise software systems in the utility and telecommunications sectors. In 2004, he received one of ten annual global technology awards from Oracle Corporation for technical innovation and leadership in the use of Oracle. He serves on the boards of directors of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). He has participated in government initiatives including the Geomatics Community Round Table and the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) initative. Currently he is a member of the Steering Committee of the Eclipse Foundation LocationTech Working Group, a commercially oriented geospatial open source initiative.

Roger Haagmans, principal scientist at the European Space Agency

Roger HaagmansRoger Haagmans will speak on the European Space Agency's gravity field and steady-state ocean circulation explorer (GOCE) satellite project and its impact on surveying. His presentation is entitled "GOCE: the Formula 1 satellite for geodesy and surveying".

Roger Haagmans studied geodetic engineering at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and later worked as an assistant professor in the Faculty of Geodetic Engineering. In 2000, he took up the position of associate professor at the Department of Mapping Sciences of the Agricultural University of Norway. His research focussed on the gravity field, applications of satellite altimetry, land-sea height systems, marine geodesy and hydrography. In 2001, he joined the European Space Agency as principal scientist and as head of the Solid Earth Unit of the Earth Science Division. Since 2008 he has held the position of head of the Earth Surfaces and Interior Section of the Mission Science Division in the Science, Applications and Future Technologies Department of the Earth Observation Programmes Directorate. He has been responsible for project science support throughout implementation of ESA's GOCE and Swarm Earth Explorer missions. He is also involved in studying new concepts for future satellite missions. He was nominated as senior advisor in ESA in 2012. In addition he is a member of the science panel of the Global Geodetic Observing System and has authored over 70 scientific articles.
