The Electrical Engineering and Allied Industries Association The
EEAIA is a non-profit employers' organisation falling under the
SEIFSA umbrella, representing the interests of the electrical engineering, electrical manufacturing, supply, repair and installation industries, the electronics industry, and associated technical members in South Africa. It was established in 1936 and has a current membership of 201 member companies.
Brief CV of presenter Hendrik Langenhoven has a BA(Hons) (cum laude) degree in political science, economics and African studies, and a master's degree in economics, focusing on international trade policy, all from the University of Stellenbosch. His career has included positions as policy analyst at the Office of the economic advisor to the state president, covering economic development, planning, fiscal policy, privatisation, urbanisation and trade policy; lecturer in economics at Stellenbosch University; and construction economist and executive director at the SA Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors (SAFCEC). He is currently chief economist at the Steel and Engineering Industries' Federation of SA (SEIFSA).
Synopsis The event will have the format of a seminar and open interactive workshop with delegates. It will cover:
- Latest economic indicators, price trends, import/export data and (short term) data/trends in the steel and engineering sector
- Specific trends on electrical machinery and equipment, both globally and locally
- The thinking behind and the submission by SEIFSA at the recent NERSA public hearings into Eskom's MYPD3 application for an electricity price increase of 16% p.a. for the next 5 years till 2018T
- The thinking behind and research done to date for SEIFSA's Industry Policy Forum position
- The SEIFSA presentation made at the SAISC 'Steel Futures' Conference
- Any other questions issues raised by delegates/participants at the seminar/workshop.
