This Month in NSA Virginia:

"Turning Your Speaking Engagement into a 6 Figure Relationship"

With Speaker Ron Karr, CSP & President Elect of NSA national

Friday, March 15, 2013

From 8:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m.

Are you looking at each speech as a stand-alone event or are you looking at each speech as a stepping stone to additional revenue? This is the fundamental question Ron Karr asks every speaker to think about. It is the difference between getting booked some times and building a sustainable business. It is the difference between making some money at speaking vs. having a highly profitable business.

In this highly dynamic, interactive and results proven presentation, Ron will share with you the mindsets and tactics you can immediately use to significantly grow your speaking business. He will share real case studies on how these strategies play out in the market place. Having been in the speaking business for over 24 years, Ron is known for his ability in going wide and deep with many of his clients.

If you are looking for ways to increase revenues and profits, reduce the amount of time it takes to close business and find better ways to leverage your intellectual property, this is one program you will not want to miss.
This program is not about theory. It is about strategies and tactics that are proven. Ron will even invite members of the audience to participate in hot seats where he will take them through a process that will immediately produce eye-opening strategies they can use to grow their business. So come prepared to discuss your sales and marketing challenges

And Don't Forget to Register for This Mont's PEG!

NSA Virginia's PEG has been meeting since September, 2012. The PEG was recently named, the Bacon PEG because the focus of discussion has been about bringing home more money (and those attending seem to also have an affinity for bacon). Meetings are usually attended by 10 -12NSA Va members and affiliates.

The cost to participate is $5 (payable on when you register for the workshop) plus the cost of what you order from the menu on the day of the meeting.

Have questions about the PEG?, call Pam Rambo at 757-903-6511 or email her at [email protected].

New Member Spotlight: Erin Mahone

By Joan Bowling, NSA VA Membership Chair

The best comes out in all of us when our gifts shine. New NSA/Virginia member Erin Mahone has been blessed with many gifts that shine through into our community. As a singer, Erin is a member of The Bob Blagg Trio; a jazz performance group that you will see performing in the Richmond area in February at The Wine Loft and in March at Poe's Pub. As a performer, you will see Erin in the upcoming play at the Jewish Community Center here in Richmond called: Acts of Faith. As a playwright, she is working on her one woman show. And, as an author, soon to be unveiled is her upcoming book: Life, Motherhood and the Pursuit of Sanity.

While studying psychology and sociology at Mary Baldwin University, the performing arts were always a mainstay for her. And her performing is driven by the desire to help people through personal expression. Her local "fan base" includes her husband, and three young children. As she delights in raising her family, she also enjoys being a member of the Special Olympics, VA family as their Regional Program Director. Erin has held this position since September 2011.

Vickie Griffith was instrumental in sharing more details of the value of being in the NSA/Virginia family -and the time was right! Erin's launch into NSA/Virginia will help her continue her speaking goals to motivate, educate and inspire.

And, the next time you see Erin, don't forget to ask her how her 2013 Polar Bear Plunge went!

A warm welcome to Erin Mahone.

Are YOU Being Seen?

Tools of the Trade

By Dave Miles, NSA VA Publicity Chair

As speakers, we are all looking to monetize our message and to look for additional streams of revenue beyond our speaking and training contracts.

Whether you are primarily a speaker or a full-time trainer (or somewhere in-between), this month I would like to highlight something I ran across that will help you move in the direction of multiple streams of revenue.

This month I want to highlight an online service called VipeCloud (www.VipeCloud.com).   Never heard of VipeCloud? Neither had I.  What I found out is that it allows you to sell your video content online easily and fairly profitably.

Here are some of the things that VipeCloud helps you do through their video sharing:

Control how your videos are packaged and shared

Provide an ecommerce platform to sell your video content.

Help you figure out what's working and what's not so you can optimize your video sales.

They market themselves as a 'Video Business in a Box'.  You can share your content for free for your subscribers if you want, but their commerce options seem to be good.  Their fee is 15% and you can set it up to either sell video content by the individual video, or as a group subscription service which can automatically push out your video content to your subscribers.

There is an SEO component to help promote your content as well as analytics built in to the software so you can track who's watching, your top subscribers, and build an email list of subscribers.

Looking at some of the people already using the service, there seems to be a robust option for different levels of subscriptions and you can set up your branded channel on the site.

Questions that I have would be "how easy is it to embed their material into your existing site?".  I am sure a good programmer could integrate without too much difficulty that is just something that is not easily explained upfront.  Of course using a URL shortening service like Bit.ly and marketing your content via traditional social media channels such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn is also a great option.

So think about taking your brand, your content, and your videos that you may already have and repurpose them into "PleasePayMe-TV" by checking out VipeCloud and seeing if it's for you.

If you have any suggestions or great things that you have found that would be good for next month's 'Tools of the Trade' please send me an email at [email protected] and let me know.

Welcome to Kg's Korner!!!

By Kittygayle McMoon, NSA VA Librarian

WOW!  Valentine's Day is passed and Happy St. Patrick's Day to you all!!!

A BIG THANK YOU to the person who returned all those "Voices of Experience" CD's at the last meeting!!!  I can see why you kept them for so long - they are FANTASTIC!!!   And, anonymity is very acceptable no matter who you are!

PLEASE keep 'em coming on in!!!  (That doesn't mean you can't check any out.  Please do!)

Now for our FIRST BOOK REPORT!!!

As you know, we had the very vibrant Monica Wofford with us in January and she donated her book "Make Difficult People Disappear" to our Library.  Having now read said book, I have to say, it bears reading and being thought about by all of us.

Have you ever had a day in which EVERYONE you ran into made your day difficult, at best?  How do we handle that?  How do we even "get through" the day without totally pulling our hairs out of our heads?

Monica writes her book in story form.  The "heroine" of this story, Cybil, has these kinds of days all the time!  She's a hard-working executive, mother, wife; and she seems to be constantly beset by people determined to knock her off course and ruin everything she is attempting to accomplish!  It happens no matter where she goes, work, grocery store, sometimes even at home.

Cybil is truly a good person who desperately wants to be a good mom, wife, boss and has tried for years to figure out how to deal with all these difficult people, how to understand them so she can be better in all these walks of her life.

The story takes us through a training session, much like the one we had in January only much more involved.  Through a series of exercises, questions and participation by her colleagues,Cybil observes (and is surprised to learn) that everyone doesn't think like she thinks, everyone doesn't do things the way she would do them.

As the "light bulbs" of insight came on in her head she begins to come to realize:

".......... most people are doing the best they know how to do and dealing with internal voices and external influences.  The moment you label them as 'difficult,' you eliminate your options for better understanding.  You cease to leave the door open to understand who they are and what they need versus just what they do that is "different' from the way you would do it.  And, you build a mountain of obstacles to overcome in the way of motivation............."

Wouldn't it be nice if, even in times of stress, we would/could accept the people around us as they are instead of expecting them to think and behave as we do?

Wouldn't it be even nicer if, even in times of stress, we would/could accept OURSELVES as WE are instead of attempting to fit into the mold of "Expectations" that possibly originated in our childhood?

I highly recommend this book to all of you and intend to purchase a copy for myself. I also recommend we all make at least one visit to www.MakeDifficultPeopleDisappear.com and complete the CORE snapshot and CORE profile.  It could be very enlightening.
