Greetings!
'Community' is a word that is used to describe many things. The United Nations is a community of nations, the town I live in is a community, and there are even separate communities within both of those. But I have been reminded in the past few weeks what 'community' really means.
You have no doubt seen images of destruction on the US northeast coast after Hurricane Sandy hit that region two weeks ago. Even with all the differences there are between people who live there, especially in heavily populated, melting-pot states like New York and New Jersey, I am humbled and encouraged by how people come together to help each other in time of need. We've seen the same thing after other disasters, whether natural or man-made. The differences between people from all walks of life, and regardless if they were born around the corner or on the other side of the globe, seem to disappear when lighting strikes and the rain comes down.
As we approach the end of another year and the beginning of a new one -- and especially with the coming holidays -- I encourage you to take time to reach out to others in your community who need a helping hand. It should not take a natural disaster to remind us that we're all in this together, and we all sink, or swim, together.
Enjoy the coming holiday season!

TECO Plywood Group Holds Training Session
TECO has added a number of new plywood certification clients in the past year, and with it, Plywood Technicians and Inspectors to conduct routine quality inspections at the mills. In keeping with our goal to provide unparalleled service to TECO clients, TECO brought together our entire plywood group for a 3-day training session in Oregon last month, a group of a dozen TECO employees with a combined 300+ years of experience in the US plywood industry.
The session started in Portland, OR, on October 16, by participating in the Veneer-Based Plywood and Engineered Lumber Manufacturing and QC short course that was held as part of Panel World's Timber Processing and Energy Expo. Dr. Richard Baldwin, EVP/GM of Wood Resources LLC, opened with the keynote address, and was followed by presentations by representatives of Daqota Systems, Raute, Westmill Machine Automation, Metriguard, and TECO, to name a few.
Day 2 of TECO's training session included mill tour and training at the Freres Lumber plywood mill in Mill City, OR, and a mill tour at Redbuilt's LVL/I-joist operation in Stayton, OR. Both of these mills are TECO certification clients. The day concluded at TECO's test laboratory in Eugene, OR, with demonstrations of glue-bond testing, and small- and large-scale panel tests.
Day 3 had a decidedly classroom feel, with Mike Russell, TECO's Plywood Certification Manager, giving talks on changes to PS 1, and on TECO's proprietary Plywood Technician Software program that TECO Plywood Technicians and Inspectors utilize for plywood certification clients.

U.S. ITC Votes to Continue Cases on Hardwood Plywood from China
The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has determined that there is a reasonable indication that a U.S. industry is materially injured by reason of imports of hardwood plywood from China that are allegedly subsidized and sold in the U.S. at less than fair value. All six Commissioners voted in support of this action. As a result of the ITC's affirmative determinations, the U.S. Department of Commerce will continue to conduct its investigations on imports of these products, with its preliminary countervailing duty determination on or about December 21, 2012, and its preliminary antidumping duty determination due on or about March 6, 2013.
