When was the last time you opened your mind to the possibilities that lie ahead of you? Do you even dare to dream of the possibilities that hide just around the corner of your life?
The first step in realizing your business or life potential is opening your eyes. Once you are aware of the opportunities, don't let fear get in your way. Focus on the goal and how to accomplish it, rather than on the habits and fears that could stand in your way.
Fear is a natural instinct. It was given to us as a tool to keep us out of harm's way. But when we let it stop us from accomplishing our dreams, it must be faced and overcome. There are many fears that rise up like brick walls to halt us in our tracks. We can't let them stop us! We have to find a way around, over, or through these fears. If we let the fear of failure, fear of success, fear of non-acceptance, fear of public speaking, or even fear of lack of ability or education stop us, then we will never achieve our full potential. However, one surprisingly overlooked fear that many of us grapple with is that of the telephone. It isn't the phone itself, as it is an inanimate object, and not the root of our fear. We should look at the phone as a tool rather than a wall. This will make it easier for us to extend our arms and pick up our receivers.
Now that we have the receiver in our hand, we would do well to focus on the benefit we can bring to the person we are speaking to on the call. We should focus on the excitement and pure joy of sharing. When we focus on the amazing results and benefits that using our product or service provides, and how much easier or better the life of the person on the other end of the phone will be, we won't have any trouble talking about what we are selling, whether on the phone or in person.
What did I just say? Did you 'pick it up'? It's simple: take the focus off of you and direct it onto them. If you can do this one thing, you will find that many of the walls that stand in your way to success will come crumbling down.
Perhaps you have a habit that stands in the way of achieving your life's dream. Habits often become roadblocks to our success. One habit that needs to be overcome is that of blurting rather than sharing. What I mean by this is you don't take the time to find out if the person or group you are addressing would even want or need what you have to offer. Get to know them first.
Another habit could be trying to remain a one-man or one-woman shop. When you are first building your business, this may be your only option. Nevertheless, if you allow yourself to remain in this mindset, thinking that anyone else in your same line of work is your competition, your business will never grow.
This habit of being responsible for every detail of your business can become a death sentence for growth if you don't learn to delegate and let go. Start with tasks you would rather not do, or don't know how to do on a professional level.
Consider hiring your competition, or at least working together rather than working against them. Pay someone else who needs the work and has the talent and skill to accomplish tasks you don't enjoy or find difficult. This will allow you to save your sanity and perhaps the life of both of your businesses.
Learning to expect change and embrace it rather than shun it is not easy to do. But, you'll be glad you trusted your ability to do so as you watch your dreams come true.
To get past these walls we must accept and let go of the power they have over us. Learn to trust that the doorway that has been opened before you has opened at the perfect time in your life or business.
There is a quote that comes to mind that I would like to share with you. It strikes me as extremely profound. "When opportunity knocks, it is too late to prepare."
What this says to me is that new possibilities only come to light when you are ready to embrace them. They are specific to you and where you are at the time that fits your life and need.
The possible dream that lies ahead of you will require trust and belief. Realize that change, in and of itself, is not transition. Change is accomplished by the actions you take. So face your fears, examine your habits, and move forward. For dreams only become reality when positive actions are taken.
