On A Personal Note
| Welcome back to Words of Wisdom Ezine. This month I have begun learning all I can about book marketing. No, I don't want to change my profession and focus on the marketing aspect of publishing; I'll leave that to those more imminently qualified professionals. But, it is always helpful to know what your marketing team is up to and why. That is my reason for developing a synergistic relationship with two marketing pros whose mission resonates with my own. First, there is Misty Taggart, who has won both the US Film Festival Award and the USA Film Festival Award for short films. She offers three book trailer types, including "Chat with the Author" video, filmed on location!
Then, also extremely qualified in her field, is EMSI's CEO, Marsha Friedman. This woman and her company have been assisting authors to sell more books through media appearances, both local and nationally. I can't tell you how pleased I am to have found these women and I can vouch for their services and ethos. Be sure to pop in over at DocUmeantPublish.com and read their bios and help me welcome them to the family.
As always, I hope you find the information informative and useful. It is for you and the benefit of your company that I continue to offer this Words of Wisdom Ezine.
Wishing you a God filled day! Ginger Marks

After Your Enthusiasm Wanes

We've all be there. The project we are working on is practically done, we've nearly accomplished what we set out to do, and then the fear sets in. Or perhaps, you are completely done and as you sigh you realize that you have no exciting prospects or goals left to accomplish. This emotional upheaval is most evident in parenting, and is even given a name; Postpartum Depression. Like the birth mother or father, this depression can occur any time from the middle to after the blessed event.
As with birthing, this depression can affect you and your business. There will be times when you're sleep deprived and overwhelmed, you may have trouble handling even minor problems. You may be anxious about your ability to even run your business, thinking, Is it really worth it? You may even feel that you've lost control over your life. Any of these factors can contribute to postpartum business depression.
So, how do you keep going and pull yourself out of your doldrums? What can you do to stay on the path to success? Here are some ideas that may just help.
1. Change your mindset. Decide today that you won't quit. Say to yourself, "I'm not going to give up or give in to the naysayers!" As Winston Churchill once said, "Never, never, never give up." Go to your mirror and speak these words. Say them to yourself both out loud and in your mind every day, several times for thirty days.
Why do I say thirty days? NASA provides the answer. They did a test where they had the astronauts were contact lenses that literally turned their world upside down. "Scientists discovered that each individual had developed new neural pathways, allowing them to operate more effectively within the new set of circumstances, and the window for this process, without exception, was 25 to 30 days."[1] The caveat here is you can't miss even one single day, it must continue without interruption for the entire time. So if you focus on changing the non-conscious brain, you will, by default, be working on eliminating your self-limiting beliefs and habits.
2. Counseling. If you can't make the adjustment yourself, then perhaps counseling is the key for you. Don't feel like you can go it alone, if you have an addictive personality. Like the smoker who is trying to quit, you may need that extra push to keep you motivated. It's good to talk things over. Counseling provides a non-threatening way to talk things out with a non-biased, third party. The business coach who has already reached their goal, in the same area you may be having trouble with, can help motivate and give you direction to help you achieve your own goals.
Which brings us to your next option. . . .
3. Books, tapes, videos. There are numerous books, tapes, and videos available to help keep you motivated. One of my all-time favorites is a cassette tape that I acquired years ago while working with Amway Corporation by George Halsey titled, "A Peep Over the Pail." My understanding is that it is now re-done by Jan Culkins. However, you can find a plethora of information at your fingertips to keep you motivated and focus driven.
4. Baby steps. Perhaps procrastination is your challenge. "Just do it" is easy to say, but at times can be impossible to put into action. Start by refocusing your mind. The key to moving beyond procrastination is learning how to clearly identify what is plaguing you. That way, you can focus on the appropriate remedy. Take baby steps, begin small and do one thing until you complete the task, then tackle the next one. Realize that you don't have to be perfect at something or know everything about a subject to begin. That knowledge alone will help move procrastination to the sideline.
5. Delegate. Don't try to do it all yourself. When you need help; ask for it. If you haven't the talent or thrill for doing something, hire someone who does. This eliminates a lot of stress associated with business operations and can free you up to do what you do best.
6. Escape. When all else fails, perhaps what you need is to step away and renew and refresh. Sometimes getting up and taking a break is all that is needed. At other times, you may need to find a place of refuge or a total change of environment. While a bubble bath might be all you need, a vacation get away may be the best answer.
I truly hope you have found at least one piece of advice that will help you along your path to business success. Stay focused and working toward your goal. Never, never, never give up, and you too will reach your full potential.
