Get Ready for the 13th Annual Los Angeles River Ride on June 9th Mark your calendars! We have a little over 6 months until LACBC's biggest ride returns on Sunday, June 9th. Perhaps your goal for 2013 is to ride a Century or to get your whole family out on bike ride together. Let us help!
13th Annual Los Angeles River Ride When: Sunday, June 9, 2013 Where: Start at the Autry Center at 4700 Western Heritage Way, Griffith Park

Join us for the LACBC Bike Ride to the Rose Parade
LACBC members: please join us for another family ride across Pasadena to Laemmle's Playhouse 7, where we'll climb the rooftop and watch the 124th Rose Parade from up above! Last year when we first had this ride, our group had one of the best views of the Rose Parade on Colorado Blvd.!
Because we will be climbing very tall ladders on a rooftop with no parapet, riders must be comfortable with tall heights and agile enough to make the climb. This 8-mile ride, combined with the climbing, is not suitable for children under 9.
LACBC Ride to the Rose Parade
When: Tuesday, January 1, 2013; Meet at 7:30 AM, Ride at 7:45 AM
Where: Meet at the Heritage Square Metro Gold Line Station in Highland Park at 3545 Pasadena Ave, Los Angeles 90031 (map)
RSVP: RSVPS are REQUIRED for this ride, as this ride is limited to only 24 people! Priority will be given to current LACBC members and those who RSVP early. Please RSVP with your name, the amount of people you'll be bringing (plus the ages of any children attending), and your phone number to Carol Feucht at [email protected].

Introducing Our New Ride Westwood Campaign
Ride Westwood is an LACBC West Neighborhood Bike Ambassador campaign to advocate for proposed bike lanes on Westwood.
This proposed project is part of the 2010 Bicycle Master Plan and is meant to connect to a larger network of bicycle paths, lanes, and routes for everyone to use. This particular project may require the removal of a travel lane or a parking lane to accommodate for these improvements.
The addition of bike lanes on Westwood will accent the people-oriented district this community has become and will ultimately make the area a more vibrant and livable community.
There are three main ways for you to get involved with this new campaign:
1. Sign the petition
Sign our online petition to show your support for bike lanes on Westwood. Add your voice here.
2. Join our mailing list If you are interested in signing onto our Westwood newsletter, let us know here.
3. Volunteer and help spread the word We're looking for volunteers to help spread the word. Please contact Alek Bartrosouf at [email protected] for more information.
For more information about our Ride Westwood campaign or are interested in volunteering, feel free to contact Alek Bartrosouf at [email protected] or (213) 629-2142. You can learn more about the campaign at la-bike.org/ridewestwood.

Educate, Activate, Calculate for a More Bike-Friendly Los Angeles County Here at LACBC HQ we are bursting with pride with how much we've grown as an organization while contributing to the progress of making a more a bike-friendly Los Angeles.
LACBC needs to build on our foundation, supporting that growth and becoming an even stronger voice for ALL bicyclists in LA County. We have devised a three-part program to successfully build neighborhood level support for bicycle projects. This comprehensive program can be summarized as Activate, Educate, Calculate.
To successfully staff and implement this program we need to raise $125,000.

Support LACBC on Climate Ride California or NYC-DC 2013
How can you enjoy an incredible 5-day bicycle ride in Northern California or on the East Coast while supporting LACBC? Climate Ride - the nation's largest environmental cycling event and 'green conference on wheels' is coming. The exciting part for LACBC is that anyone who signs up for the ride gets to choose which organization they will be raising money for - and you can choose LACBC! First you register, reach the fundraising minimum and train for the ride, then come along and discover why Climate Ride is the premiere green event in the country. Amazing riding, epic scenery, and great speakers all combine to make this a remarkable experience. Climate Ride California (May 19-23, 2013) is a 5-day, fully-supported bicycle ride from Fortuna to San Francisco under towering redwoods, through the Russian River Wine Country, and along the Pacific Coast Bicycle Route - one of the most scenic coastlines in the world. Join the LACBC Team or make a general team donation. Climate Ride NYC-DC (Sept. 21-25, 2013) is a grand cycling adventure that connects two of the nation's most important cities - New York and Washington, DC - by bicycle. The ride begins with an exciting departure from Manhattan by ferry, then travels through charming towns in rural New Jersey and Amish Country. The finale is a hero's welcome and rally at the steps of the US Capitol. Climate Ride also features nightly speakers who focus on bicycle advocacy, sustainability, and renewable energy. If you are interested in forming and joining the NYC-DC team, please contact Kelly Martin at [email protected]. Find out more and register at www.climateride.org. If you have questions about joining the LACBC team or donating to the team, please contact Kelly Martin at [email protected] |

This collection of holiday bike photos from around the country shows how creative some people can be with their lit-up bikes. Thanks to the NRDC blog for compiling all these photos.
