CLINTON AHEAD IN TEXAS
   And Endorsed By Dallas News

Yesterday a Washington Post-SurveyMonkey poll of all 50 states (and of more than 74,000 registered voters -- an unusually large sample) shows Hillary Clinton WINNING IN TEXAS. (Read the whole thing at https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/2016-election/50-state-poll/)

Yes, it's just by one point, and it's within the margin of error, and it's still two months till the election, so this may not be the final result here. BUT no Democratic candidate for President has carried Texas in many many years. This is BIG, and it should scare the Republicans to death. If they lose TEXAS, what other states will fall?

This poll may have already had another effect: today, the Dallas Morning News actually ENDORSED Clinton for President. As they point out, they have not recommended a Democrat for President since before World War II. Yes, they spend some time criticizing her (and Democrats), and praise her because of all the Republicans who are backing her. BUT this is one more sign how far out on the fringe Trump really is. (You can read it, until they hide it behind a log-in wall, at http://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/editorials/20160907-we-recommend-hillary-clinton-for-u.s.-president.ece)

Some of this usually-Republican support is just because Trump is so unpredictable and irresponsible he scares people. But some is because he has gone beyond the bounds of civilized political discourse and lifted rocks to let crawl out some horrible vermin of racism, anti-semitism, sexism, and all sorts of other awful "isms". We thought they were safely buried until Trump's fear- and hate-mongering welcomed them back. Ex-Klan leader David Duke (now running for the US Senate in Louisiana and backing Trump) is only one of the many demons enabled by this short-sighted demagogue. For more, see Clinton's speech about the "alt-right" at this page.

His campaign has done damage to the social fabric that will take years to heal, even after he loses. The good news is that it looks increasingly like he WILL LOSE. Let's work hard to make sure. If we can help carry TEXAS, that will be a message even willfully blind Republicans cannot ignore. Volunteer or contribute now!

(With State Representatives Toni Rose and Helen Giddings with Ann Holton, spouse of Vice-Presidential candidate Tim Kaine, talking solutions to the broken foster care system at a panel at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center. From State Representative candidate Terry Meza for HD105.)

District Attorney Resigns

On Tuesday, Dallas County District Attorney Susan Hawk announced her resignation for reasons of health. Because she waited until after August, the deadline for a special election this year has passed, so the Republican Governor will be able to appoint someone (no doubt a Republican) to fill out her term. Hawk had been elected a Judge as a Republican, then switched to a Democrat when we started winning countywide races, then switched back to a Republican to run for District Attorney two years ago. She was the only currently elected Republican countywide in Dallas. While we wish her the best with her health, this carefully-timed resignation was her parting shot against allowing the voters of Dallas County to decide for themselves who will represent them. More than one qualified Democrat had already expressed interest in seeking this office in 2018.
