Club of the Month: North Dallas Texas Democratic Women

In August of 1920, after years of discrimination and protest, the 19th amendment was ratified and women were finally given the right to vote. Nearly 100 years later, the North Dallas Texas Democratic Women Club upholds all of the values that the suffragettes fought for and have become one of the largest clubs chartered with the Texas Democratic Women.

When asked about the general focus of NDTDW President Lenna Webb said, "NDTDW is considered one of the most powerful and respected clubs in all of Dallas County because our members have worked so hard in all the elections since our founding.  We also co-sponsor Candidate Forums and issue related special events.  We have not only raised funds for our club to pass on to local women candidates, but also for groups like Beads for Life and local woman's shelters.  Our programs are issue related covering such topics as "Dallas: Before and After Ferguson" and "Are We Failing Our Children" focusing on the current failings of CPS and the Foster Care System. We periodically screen films such as "The Brainwashing of My Dad" with was our May 2016 meeting.

If you would like to get involved with the North Dallas Texas Democratic Women Club, they would like to invite all to the 2016 Woman Warrior Awards Luncheon, honoring State Representative Celia Israel at the Lakewood Country Club on September 21st. The keynote speaker will be Mary Beth Rogers, author of "Turning Texas Blue".  Sponsor information can be found on their website, www.ndtdw.com.

The group regularly meets on the 4th Thursday of the month (except June when we have our summer party, July when we break for vacations, November which falls on Thanksgiving, and December).
      Location:
2nd floor of the Northaven United Methodist Church
11211 Preston Rd, Dallas at 6:45 pm.
