Early Voting Has Begun

This year's Early Voting began Monday, October 20, and runs through Friday, October 31. By closing time Tuesday, 26,597 people had voted early in person in Dallas County. Some new photos below.

Hours and locations of Early Voting is a pdf here.

The sample ballot is a pdf here.

We encourage a "Straight Party" Democratic ticket vote. It's much quicker than voting for each of those dozens of candidates. (At left you see Wesley, a young college student, who voted early at the Richardson Civic Center.)

Besides over 100 federal, state, and local offices, there is also on the ballot one proposed state Constitutional Amendment, nine proposed City of Dallas Charter Amendments; bond issues in Cockrell Hill, DeSoto, Sunnyvale, and in the Duncanville, Garland, and Sunnyvale school districts; and a sales tax election in Sunnyvale. SUGGESTION: Before you go vote, read those propositions (see the link to the Sample Ballot) and decide how you are voting on them. You can even write a list and take it to save time at the polls.

The proposed state constitutional amendment, Proposition 1, would authorize annual spending from the state's oil and gas production tax collections to the State Highway Fund. An estimated $1.4 billion would be transferred to the State Highway Fund in the first year alone. The Texas Democratic Party endorsed Proposition One at the State Convention. (At right is Nancy, voting early at the downtown Dallas Records Building.)

The only other stand I've heard of yet by a Democratic group is on the City of Dallas Proposition 4 "Amending the Provision for Nondiscrimination in City Employment", which was endorsed by the Stonewall Democrats of Dallas Board, saying it "strongly urges all Dallas residents to vote FOR Proposition Number 4 on the ballot which contains all inclusive non-discrimination language for our Community." (At left is Alfonso, voting early at Samuell Grand Recreation Center. He's 81 years old and has voted in every election since becoming a registered voter.)

What About Photo IDs For Voting?

YES, we still need it this time.

Not surprisingly, the US Supreme Court did NOT rule to uphold, for this election at least, the District Court ruling which struck down
the Texas Photo ID requirement for voting. The state appealed to the federal court of appeals in New Orleans, which did not rule on the appeal (that will be probably sometime next year), but did grant a stay of enforcing it for this year. Plaintiffs against the law appealed that to the US Supreme Court, which also declined to throw out photo ID for this election. So for right now, Texas voters WILL need to have their photo IDs to vote. If you have one, take your photo ID.

The forms of approved photo ID are on our website here:
Other Yard Signs at the Office

We are out of the small Wendy Davis for Governor yard signs, but we have more of the Vote Democratic signs like the one above, and some for several of our other candidates with opponents this year.

For these signs for Leticia Van de Putte a $5 contribution is being asked for. Others available for free and needing a good yard include ones for our own State Senator Royce West of District 23, Judge D'Metria Benson of County Court at Law 1, and one more challenged incumbent, Judge Sally Montgomery of County Court at Law 3, and for candidates Carol Donovan for State Representative HD 107, Leigh Bailey for State Representative HD 108, Paul Stafford for State Representative HD 115, Lois Parrott for State Board of Education District 12, and Frank Perez for Congress District 32. Stop by our office from 9 AM to 6 PM Monday through Friday to pick up a yard sign and help remind Democrats to vote!
