Reminder: Fish Fry Tomorrow Friday Oct. 25 |
Each year the Dallas County Democratic Party's Fish Fry is our largest gathering of Democratic voters, officeholders and candidates, coming together for food, fellowship, and fun. This year's 13th Annual Fish Fry celebration will be on Friday, October 25, at 6 PM, at the same location as last year, the Sokol Hall, 7448 Greenville Ave. (at Walnut Hill), Dallas.
Individual tickets are now on sale for this year's DCDP Fish Fry. These are $35 each, but only $25 for a DCDP Sustaining Member.
Tickets include a catfish dinner with all the fixings. Beer & soft drinks are available. Please feel free to bring desserts to share! (Call or email and let us know if you're bringing some.) We'll also have our new DCDP tee shirts for sale, and some 2014 bumper stickers.
You can buy tickets on-line at this page, or mail your payment to or bring it by the party office, or call 214-821-8331 to charge your credit card. You will not receive physical tickets in the mail: we will have a list to check off at the door of the event. (Yes, you can pay at the door -- while the food lasts.)
You can still be a Sponsor of the Fish Fry, but the invitations have been mailed out. If you still want to help the DCDP as a Sponsor, we will thank you very much, and we can list you on the website, and in the Roundup, and on the printed flyer at the event. Early Voting Continues |
Early Voting for the November 5, 2013 Constitutional Amendment Election will go on through Friday, November 1. For a list of the specific days, times, and locations, see this pdf. The voting locations for Election Day, Tuesday, November 5, are at this pdf. (Note: some locations were consolidated because of expected low turnout.)
Besides the nine state Constitutional Amendments, there is a special election for one DISD Board seat, and several suburbs also have elections to fill vacancies or amend local charters. The text of the state amendments is in the Sample Ballot at this pdf (fortunately just on the first three pages). For more information, see The Texas Tribune, which takes no sides in this; Burnt Orange Report, which on Oct. 17 endorsed all of them except three and seven [their other comments are linked at the top right margin of their home page]; the Houston Chronicle, which is for all of them; the House Research Organization, with a 24-page analysis; and the Texas Legislative Council, with both a 13-page Condensed Analysis, and a 69-page full Analysis which goes into backgrounds, pros and cons, and legislative history until the mind reels.
Only one of these amendments has gotten much attention, almost all favorable. State Representative Eric Johnson wrote an op-ed in favor of this proposed amendment 6, which deals with water, in the News on July 8, called "Water main breaks remind us what's at stake". It's behind their subscriber wall now, if you want to search, or or I copied the text at this page. On the other hand, some Tea Partiers and others have objections.
And, yes, Virginia, there is a voter photo ID law in effect, even though Congressman Veasey, the Dallas County Commissioners, and lots of other people are suing in federal court to have it thrown out. Until the courts declare that un-Constitutional, take your driver's license or something else acceptable (the list is here). If you know some good Democrat who doesn't have one of the items on that list, let's help them get one before the March 4 Primary.
