We're thrilled to announce the posting of the first videos from our recent Conference on Dyslexia and Innovation! Held at the lovely Cavallo Point Lodge in Sausalito, California, this amazing event has already produced many positive outcomes. Dr. Dave McComas shared his unlikely journey from being the 'slow' child in his family to becoming director of the Interstellar Boundary Explorer NASA mission, a project that revolutionized our understanding of the structure of the solar system.

Dr. Don Francis was the physician profiled for his pioneering work discovering the AIDS virus in Randy Shilts' monumental history of the AIDS epidemic And the Band Played On. He also is credited for helping eliminate smallpox and Ebola from parts of Africa and India. He is a legendary "epidemic chaser" who believes his dyslexia may help him see problems from many different perspectives.

New Online Course from Pulitzer Prize Winning Poet Philip Schultz - Teaching Creative Writing to LD Students - starts April 28th! | |
We're thrilled to tell you about a fabulous new online course called Teaching Creative Writing to Dyslexic Students that was designed by Pulitzer Prize-winning Poet and extraordinary dyslexic thinker Phil Schultz. Teachers and Homeschooling Parents are Welcome! We had a chance to get a sneak peek at the course and it's terrific! Taught by award winning poet and fiction writer Rebecca Gee, Phil has teachers work through creativity, role-playing, and observation exercises to free up own their creative voices and better equip them to develop writing talents of their students. As those who've read our book "The Dyslexic Advantage" know, skills like narrative reasoning and perspective taking are often strengths for dyslexic students, and this course is perfectly designed to help dyslexic students connect with and control those special skills. The course was designed primarily for teachers of middle and high school students, but anyone desiring to help students connect with their their internal narrative voices will find this course to be incredibly valuable. Phil has told us he will be visit the course himself. We've also learned that Rebecca has coached many students who have gone on to win Scholastic Writing Awards.

Dyslexic and LD Student Volunteers Needed for Research Study: Columbia University Online Survey of College & Grad Students Experiencing Discrimination

Elizabeth Geiger, a student in Counseling at Columbia University Teachers College in NY, would like college and grad students to take her brief online survey about discrimination.
Volunteers must be 18 years old, currently enrolled in college or grad school, reside in the U.S., and be diagnosed with a learning disability.

Our Dyslexic Gamemakers Club season is coming to a close. 5 members have submitted game mods to compete for the title of "Best Game Mod".
Play the games HERE, leave positive feedback and vote HERE, and let us know your vote for the best game modification! These students learned a lot this year, completing the Hour of Code, learning digital artwork tools, and learning the basics of rule-based programming and game design.
