Greetings!

Happy New Year! We're off to a busy start at Dyslexic Advantage with our Dyslexic Gamemakers STEM education program, our Dyslexia at Work Webinar, and our Party City Donation Campaign (Thank You to Party City CEO and Dyslexic Advantage Board Member Gerry Rittenberg, and to all who've gone to Party City and donated!). Our March Conference Weekend in San Francisco, where we'll have two great open-to-the-public events, is really coming together, too.

Dyslexic Gamemakers meet live online this Wednesday, January 15. It's not too late to sign up. Students can learn how to program, make apps, and design and make digital art. These essential 21st century career skills are also common talent and interest areas for dyslexic students. Join HERE.

Dyslexia at Work Webinar: Join us Jan 22nd when internationally recognized expert Dr. Nancie Payne presents a webinar on dyslexia in the workplace. Dr. Payne will address important issues including the pros and cons of disclosure, and accommodations that can help at work.
San Francisco Conference Weekend Public Events:

 -Scientific Symposium: "Dyslexia Beyond Reading--
Memory, Cognition, Expertise, and Innovation March
21st at UCSF's Mission Bay Campus

-Family Gathering: "Celebration of Dyslexia: A
Festival of Dyslexic Talents", Sunday afternoon,
March 23rd at Archbishop Riordan High School

Scientific Symposium: On Friday March 21, Dyslexic Advantage will be partnering with the UCSF Department of Psychiatry to present an all-day scientific research symposium entitled: "Dyslexia Beyond Reading". Internationally renowned speakers include Dr. Mark Beeman from Northwestern University talking about intuitive problem solving, Dr. Jonathan Schooler from UCSB talking about mind wandering and creativity, Dr. Fumiko Hoeft from UCSF talking about her fMRI studies of gifted dyslexic individuals, and Dr. Itiel Dror from the UK talking about his work on complex and real world problem solving.

Learn More about the research conference HERE

We're excited to bring these remarkable scientists together to discuss the many important aspects of dyslexia-related thinking and learning that have so far received too little attention, yet which if better understood could have far reaching implications for learning, instruction, and classroom and workplace adaptations.

Family Gathering: Our public event on Sunday afternoon March 23, which we've entitled A Celebration of Dyslexia, should be a tremendous time of fun and encouragement for dyslexic students and their families. This event will feature amazing dyslexic individuals like dinosaur hunter Jack Horner, movie special effects creator Valerie Delahaye Ippolito (whose film credits include Titanic, The Avengers, and the
Twilight series), our own game designer Joe Booth, author Thomas G. West (In the Mind's Eye), and naturalist and artist Jack Laws. The event will begin with a few short talks where several of these dyslexic individuals will share their own inspiring life stories, then will feature lots of interactive time talking with kids, and doing some hands-on activities together.  If you're in the Bay Area, don't miss this amazing and encouraging time! Kids get in free.  : )   More info HERE
