Unit Visits Available - Message from Sherry Brady
As part of my new role with Sagamore Council as the Unit Finance/Support Director, I'm available for unit visits. What does that entail? I can help you establish a program plan and budget, evaluate your recruitment process, provide resources to evaluate your families, answer questions about tour plans, insurance needs, adult leadership, training, and service hours, as well as establish a fundraising model to name some examples .
If your unit would like to take advantage of a unit visit or if yours is a new unit and has a group of leaders that just want to have a Q&A session, I can help. I may not have all the answers, but I'll be a great resource and will research your questions if I'm unable to answer them during our unit visit.

Popcorn Sale Wrap Up
Thank you to all participants in the 2015 Fall Popcorn Fundraiser! Not only did Sagamore Council have a 6% increase in sales, but Sagamore is the only Boy Scout Council in Indiana that had an increase in its popcorn sale in 2015. Thank you all for your hard work.
Below is the Council Popcorn Budget breakdown for 2015. It shows that the sale provided an extensive incentive plan for all participants, particularly for Scouts who have honed their salesmanship skills!

Even though we had an increase, I've exceeded my budgeted expenses so in 2016 I'll work even harder to get increased support for incentives program but what I ask of all of you in return is continue to provide a quality program that retains your current Scouts and encourages new Scouts to join!
As you see in the breakdown, the Council spent $237,421 in unit commissions alone, and that is more than what Sagamore Council netted from the sale. That indicates that units achieved a higher return by following the commission structure and completing all the right steps to help provide a program that both the unit and the participants' families believe in and support!
The 2016 Commission structure will continue to build upon the basics that units have established from the 2014 & 2015 popcorn commission structures leading to a quality program for all involved in the Scouting movement.
Congratulations to the Top District Sellers for 2015 named below with their unit number and total sale amount. Each of these Scouts won a 50" Sony Flat Screen TV - Wow, what youth wouldn't want that in his room? Great Job, gentlemen! We hope to see your sales technique in the future - you've mastered the art of selling! Peshewa |

Announcing the 2017 National Jamboree!
Dates: July 19-28, 2017
The National Jamboree is the Boy Scouts of America's premier event held every four years with the next event being July 19-28, 2017, at the BSA Summit Bechtel Reserve near Beckley, West Virginia. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Scouts unlike any other camping experience, featuring mountain biking, zip lining, white water rafting, climbing, top quality stage shows, and much more.
Sagamore Council has committed to send one Boy Scout Troop to the Jamboree, consisting of 36 Boy Scouts and 4 adult leaders. The contingent will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Scouts must be a registered member of a troop, have earned First Class Rank, be 12 years old before the first day of the Jamboree but not have turned 18 before the last day of the Jamboree. The deadline for registration is January 20, 2016.
Cost for the Sagamore Council contingent to the National Jamboree is $1,600 ($320 deposit plus four quarterly payments in 2016) and includes Jamboree participation, transportation, food, required pre-Jamboree meetings and campout, Council T-shirt, Council Jamboree Shoulder Strips, patches to trade, and more. All leaders and youth member participants are required to travel together in a contingent provided Charter Bus.

January's Roundtable will be held January 16th at Camp Buffalo from 10 AM till 2:00 PM. For the leader portion we will have a presentation on how to conduct a quality crossover ceremony. A mock crossover will be presented along with a group of brainstorming sessions on other unique crossover ideas. We will also discuss the importance of a strong relationship between your local pack and troop, highlighting activity ideas that could increase your troop's retention of Webelos making the transition to Boy Scouts. There will be a program planned for early Boy Scout rank advancement for those that are still working their way up to 1st Class. For those Scouts that have already reached first class, this would still be a good review of key skills, and for Scouts of the Star rank this could be a good opportunity to teach the EDGE methods. There is no planned advancement for Cub Scouts, but they are welcome to attend and get some practice on their Scout skills. All further roundtables for 2016 will feature an adventure for all Cub Scout ranks, excluding Arrow of Light in March. This will require 10 volunteers per roundtable to provide for the 5 adventures each time and we are still recruiting for some of those positions If you would like to volunteer to fill an adventure slot for any roundtable in 2016 please contact Jason Revord at 765-418-7381 or attend one of our monthly District Committee meetings. Lunch for January's roundtable will be a potluck, so please come on out for a fun day with your Scouting family and bring that special dish that you are famous for!
Come out to our next District Committee meeting held at Camp Buffalo January 28th at 7:30 PM Eastern. Join in the dialogue as we finish our plans for 2016's roundtables, or maybe you have an idea for our Cub Scout Adventure Day on May 9th or even the Boy Scout Spring Camporee April 22nd - 24th. If you have an idea to make any of our programs better, we want to hear from you. If you don't have any ideas now, then please come sit in on a meeting; you may be surprised by just how many ideas you have to offer. We will also begin to discuss our plans for the District Dinner which is about to undergo major changes. The Committee will discuss 2015's District Journey to Excellence, new unit prospects, and strengthening our Commissioner team. There is so much to discuss; we hope to hear from you!
