Dallas Howard accepts Boy Scout Roundtable Commissioner Position

We'd like to take a moment to congratulate Dallas Howard on accepting the Boy Scout Roundtable Commissioner position! Dallas has served as a unit commissioner for several months now and will be transitioning into the Boy Scout Roundtable Commissioner slot to help spread his knowledge of the Scouting Program. Dallas has had a variety of experiences, including a stint of Scouting in the Iowa area, and will be a great resource for Scoutmasters, Committee Chairs, and all others at the Boy Scout level!

Scouting for Food

Scouters, have you signed up for Scouting for Food yet? This is a critical aspect of community service to benefit your charter organization or local food pantry. In the Law of the Pack, a Cub Scout gives good will and in the Boy Scout Promise, a Boy Scout promises to help other people at all times. By participating in the Scouting for Food program, Scouts became a step closer to fulfilling those words.  Please contact Dylan Melling or Chas Triplett for more information or to obtain bags and stickers!

Upcoming Events:

Saturday, May 16 - Purdue Salute the Scouts

This will be a special Scout day at the Purdue Baseball game.  Tickets are $5.00 with Scout patch or receive ticket, patch, hot dog & soda for $8.00.  Signup is through campmaster.  Please let your unit leader know you'd like to attend for reservations.

Keep Your Pack Active During the Summer:

There are plenty of chances to keep your pack active during the summer. The District has 3 day camps this summer. The Kokomo Day Camp June 6, Converse Day Camp June 16-18 and Greentown Day Camp July 25. More details related to camp are located at Sagamorebsa.org and sagamore.camp-master.com.
Some things to remember about our camps:

Signups are by pack. Registration should be done by a leader in the pack for everyone attending day camp. Do not turn registration forms in to the office, turn them in to the person in your pack responsible for registering Scouts for Day Camp. The registration website is CampMaster.

Packs need to have one adult for every four Scouts*, with a minimum of two adults for Youth Protection. In the event that your pack doesn't have two adults attending day camp, please contact Daniel Carbaugh so we can pair you with another pack that has leadership. All packs must have an adult present with their youth. Remember, the leadership ratio for Day Camp is one adult to 4 Scouts (see note below concerning Tiger Scouts).

*Tiger Scouts (incoming first graders) have a different requirement for adult to youth ratio. Tigers must have one adult for every one Scout.

Have Your Den Leaders in Place

Cub Scout Packs need to know who their Den Leaders are going to be BEFORE roundups in August!  Use the summer to recruit the best person.  A good place to recruit them is at the planning meeting for your pack.  A willing volunteer is not always the best person for the job; identify the parent you want, and then get that person say "yes."  Let them know about the support in place to help them succeed.  Send them to the summer's end training for their positions. Have them view Fast Start and Youth Protection Training online right away.  Once you have your plan for the year and your leadership in place, everything else should go smoothly!

OA Conclave was April 17 - April 19 at Camp Belzer. During the weekend, Arrowmen attended training sessions for youth and adults, which included a Lodge Simulation training to help them learn the various positions in a lodge and meeting management. Special events included both a silent and live auctions, as well as a VIA lunch for the new ordeal members.

Then the fun began with the Arrowmen participating in a number of fun activities which included Lodge Ball (teams competed in a game of dodge ball), Pit-O-Doom (a Quarterstaff was used to "battle" your competitor), Obstacle Course (run between, crawl through and jump over various obstacles) and Arrowmen Idol (Karaoke contest).
There was also the Tomahawk Throw, Make-and-Take (beading), Native American dance and ceremony competition.

Takachsin Lodge had 21 members who had an amazing time at this year's Conclave. Congratulations to our 2015 Bear Scholars, Dakota Harris and Riley Stone. Also, Congratulations to Takachsin Lodge Centurion Award recipients Don Harper, George Nelson, Lucas Bowman, Matthew Bowman and Kenny Helder who were recognized at Conclave. It was a wonderful event with a lot of fun, food and fellowship and a great opportunity to play games with other Arrowmen and make lifelong connections!  We are excited to start planning for next year's event!

Upcoming Events:

OA Spring Ordeal
is May 8-10 at Cary Camp. This is another opportunity for those candidates to complete their Ordeal requirements to become members of the OA. It is also a great time for Ordeal members to pursue their Brotherhood. We have some special event patches for this event. They were designed by Justin Barnard who is the leader of the Shawnee Indian Nation. They have the centennial logo on them. Only 100 of each are being made so they will be quite collectable. The first 100 people to preregister get a free event patch. Youth get a free event lodge flap for each ceremony they do. Contact Matt Bowman if you would like to do a Ceremony. Deadline for preregistration is May 4th. The banquet on Saturday is open to everyone. Preregistration is a requirement for the banquet if you are only attending the banquet.

OA Outing on May 29-30 to attend the Indianapolis Indians "Scout Night at Victory Field". This will be the second year we have attended this event and we are looking forward to the game, snack and camping in the outfield. It is open to all OA members. You must preregister by May 1 so we can purchase tickets. Register via  CampMaster.

Training

Please help us keep your trainings up to date. Look at your Training Records on My.Scouting.org, if there are missing trainings or incorrect training information on your record, please call Laura at the Hingst Service Center 800-844-0537.

Advancement

It is important to report Advancement as soon as your Scouts earn it. Even if you are not going to give recognitions until later, please turn Advancements in to the Hingst Service Center when they are earned. There are a lot of new Cub Scouts that were recruited this fall; these Scouts should have earned their Bobcat by now. If you have Scouts that have earned their Bobcat and you have not sent in Advancements on them, please do so.

We are always looking for good volunteers to serve as Campmasters at Camp Buffalo and Cary Camp. If you are interested in serving in this capacity contact Don Harper at 765-860-4474.

Service Hours

If your unit has done service hours this past year and you have not logged them on myscouting.org please contact Chas Triplett with your information. We know all units do service; it is very important that we log these hours. We are willing to help you with this if you don't want to do it on your own.
