Wow! What a month this has been for the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce. We have been extremely busy preparing for the hundreds of archers and their families who come in to our area for the ASA Southwest Shootout. We are in the 8th year of our contract with this group and wanted to put some measurables on the investment that we were making on behalf of the community to make this event happen. We commissioned Dr. Steve Schwiff, from Texas A&M Commerce's college of Economics and Finance, to do an Economic Impact Study for us on the Archery event and on the Tour de Paris event, since these are the two largest events that we do throughout the year.

The results of that study were made public on Wednesday, April 23rd, and we are really pleased with what we found out. We provided them with attendance and hotel room information from 2007 to 2013. Their department then used the IMPLAN model, which is a state of the art Input/Output modeling system to give us the results. Lots of different demographical information was used for them to model and to arrive at the figure of what the Total Spending for Both Events means to Lamar County. This total is $1,253,959.00. There are 13 jobs that exist within the county that directly depend on the Tour de Paris and the ASA Archery events. There is a total of $600,000 in additional spending generated within the county that is directly related to these two events, as well. Finally, the food services and drinking places sector and the hotel and motel sector are the sectors most directly impacted. It must be noted, that given the rural nature of the county, some spending leaked from within the county. That is to be expected.

That tells us that the monies that the City of Paris, the Chamber of Commerce, Love Civic Center and the Visitors and Convention Council put into this event are monies that are extremely well spent. And, they love coming to Paris. We hear that time and time again. We treat them like family and they feel appreciated. So, the next time that you feel annoyed about waiting in line at a local restaurant when these events are going on, just remember the monies they are pumping into our local economy and SMILE!!!

From Becky's Desk!

A HUGE THANK YOU to all of YOU who helped with our 8th Annual ASA Southwest Shootout!

You Served, Greeted, and made welcome 1284 Shooters, Sponsors, and ASA staff  from all over the country and beyond!!

They love PARIS because of your friendly smile!  :)

We were told over and over how much our guests appreciated visiting with all the volunteers from so many local businesses and organizations !

We heard about other locations where ASA has shoots that have higher priced concessions and it is impossible to feed their families during the tournaments. They are so appreciative that we are mindful of their limited budgets.

Mike Tyrell, President of ASA, commented that coming to Paris is like coming to see Family.

Thank YOU for making this possible!  The proceeds from the 2014 concessions will go towards the remodeling of our Chamber office upstairs!

Next weekend is the Annual Kids Safe Saturday and Art Fair May 10th at Love Civic Center

Memorial Day Weekend we have more Archers coming to Paris to participate in the annual Texas ASA Western Region Shootout, hosted by our local Archers for Christ!

June 6th and 7th is our Annual HWY 82/287 Yard Sale weekend from New Boston to Quanah!

There is always something happening in Paris and Lamar County!!!

Go out and be a tourist in your own "backyard"!!
