Welcome to the first edition of the Chamber's newsletter entitled "Chambre Vue" (our little play on French). We are excited about this new venture and want to hear from our members on ideas and things that you would like to see us include in each edition. This is YOUR Chamber and your newsletter, so it is important that we provide you with the information that you want to see. So, please email either myself Melissa@paristexas.com or Gina firstname.lastname@example.org with ideas and suggestions.
There are several projects that we are working on, one of which is the new map for Paris and Lamar County. Springhill Press has been producing this map for us for several years and does an excellent job. These are widely distributed through our motels, newcomer packets, etc. This is the only full map that is endorsed by the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce. To compliment this map, the Paris News is producing a tear-off map sheet that is a shortened version of the City map and is widely used by motels, convenience stores, etc. We are really excited about this project and feel like it will be an extremely popular addition to our marketing materials. Also, the new Visitor's Guide should be available in the next couple of weeks and includes a Chamber membership directory. These are always in demand by hotels, realtors, etc. so we are anxious to get them distributed. The finished product will be really nice.
We have also formed several new committees that are hard at work on different areas of the Chamber. Our Membership Committee has been working on several different things, the first of which was a new Mission Statement for the Chamber. They did an excellent job and it now reads, "The Mission of the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce is to lead the way for economic growth by promoting and meeting the needs of business, industry and tourism." Also, this committee is working on some new marketing materials that will include a new membership brochure. In addition they are working on a new dues structure, which will be a fair share approach and will get our Chamber in alignment with others of similar size. We also have formed a Retail Committee, which is working on several projects. They are currently working on ideas to promote shopping locally and keeping tax dollars in Lamar County, as well as ways that we can assist the City of Paris in their retail efforts.
Plans are also underway and work has begun on preparing for the 2014 ASA Southwest Shootout Archery Tournament, which returns in April. This is a wonderful event for Lamar County and brings a tremendous amount of tax dollars to the entire area. The Tour de Paris will celebrate its 30th year in 2014 and a special logo contest commemorating this event was just completed. Be watching for the winner to be announced.
As you can tell, we are working hard to make your Chamber the best it can be. We hope that you are pleased with our efforts. If you have comments, concerns, praises, etc. please do not hesitate to let me know, either by phone (903)784-2501 or email Melissa@paristexas.com
From Becky's Desk!
We had a great "Holiday in Paris" during the Christmas holidays in spite of several delays as a result of inclement weather. Yes the ice storm put a "freeze" on our party, but our determination persevered and planned events happened thanks to committee members, merchants, city employees, and our dedicated volunteers.
Plans are being made for a new event to take place this October. "Ghosts and Legends" will offer the participants a tour of our Historic past where we will meet the men and women who added so much to our History and our Heritage. Paris Community Theater Actors will portray those gone before us who have a story to tell about our past. Watch for details on this exciting and fun addition to an already great line-up of events this year!
The December ice storm damaged a lot of the lanes for the ASA Archery Southwest Shootout. A huge thank you to Mark Rothfuss and his team of volunteers from Archers for Christ and Jimmy Don Nicholson, Adult Probation Officer for all your help clearing the debris from the lanes.
We are working on the schedule to work concession stands during ASA, April 25, 26 and 27th. If you can help during this time, please call Judy at the Chamber 903-784-2501. Your help will be most appreciated as we greet this great group of people from all over the country and outside the USA!
Tour de Paris Bicycle Rally is celebrating 30 years on July 19th, and plans are in the works for a fantastic Anniversary!
"Our Paris" continues to be a great place to live and visit! Be a tourist and discover the gems that await you right here at home!
