Joyner's Bright Spot

Integrity Time At Joyner

What an awesome experience our first grade students get to have each week.  We have wonderful parents and community members come in each week to teach very important character building lessons.

Each week a letter of the alphabet is used to teach an integrity concept:   A is for Attitude, B is for Behavior, etc.  Joyner's first graders look forward to this program each week!

Classroom Happenings

Kindergarten
After our holiday on Monday, Kindergarten will be getting to work on our new Reading Street story, This is the Way We Go to School.  We will be studying the letters Yy and Qq and the high frequency words where and come.
For math we will begin to learn about Position and Location of Shapes.  Some math vocabulary words we will learn are inside, outside, above, below, left and right.

First Grade
First graders have an exciting week planned as we read the story Henry and Mudge and Mrs. Hopper's House. We will be practicing asking and answering questions when reading, adding suffixes -ly and -ful, and making the sound /oo/ as in foot. In math we will complete our unit on measurement and begin a unit on time. Please help your child practice telling time to the hour and half hour on analog and digital clocks. Thanks for all your support!

Second Grade

In Math, we will continue our topic on counting money.  In Language Arts, we will focus on using quotation marks.  We will also focus on the reading skill, author's purpose with our reading selection, Red, White, and Blue.  Our phonics skill will focus on abbreviations.
