48 States have counties. Louisiana has Parishes and Alaska has organized boroughs, and one unorganized borough. The Government calls those exceptions County Equivalents. In total there are 3007 plus 133 equals 3140.

Delaware has the fewest number with 3, and Texas has the highest number with 254.

HOWEVER, although we have over 3.000 counties ... 50% of the total population lives in just 146 counties.

When compiling data from County records, it's very profitable to use those 146 large counties. It's unprofitable to check in with the other 3,000 who may have 0, 1 or 2 records. At Avrick Direct, we check with all of them. That's why our lists are the largest, most thorough and ACCURATE.
