Lately it seems that every day I read another atrocious story about physical or sexual violence against women.
While we'd like to think women and girls in Canada are safe from this type of violence, the facts say otherwise. Every six days, another woman in Canada is murdered by her current or former partner. Every night in Canada, more than 3,000 women (along with their 2,500 children) are forced to sleep in an emergency shelter because it's not safe for them at home. Half of all women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of sixteen.
But you can offer hope.
On April 13, we launch our annual campaign to end violence against women, and we invite you to get involved!

experienced violence.
If you haven't registered or donated to Move for Hope, the fun and empowering one-hour workout for all fitness levels, led by GoodLife Fitness, you still have time.
Your support will help women like Rose, who left her abusive husband to create a safer and happier life for her and her sons.
"I was determined to make it on my own. I took an unknown step forward and left a life of fear, hoping for a more peaceful one."

SPOTLIGHT: RED ROAD TO HEALING
 | |
The Value of Traditional Teachings
|
Thanks to your gift, Aboriginal women in Winnipeg who experience violence can attend a unique program that honours their traditional culture.
The Red Road to Healing program was designed in 2010 by Shannon Buck, Program Coordinator at the West Central Women's Resource Centre; the pilot project was supported by a grant from the Canadian Women's Foundation.
Since then, 500 women have attended the Red Road to Healing program, 13 community groups from across Manitoba have been trained to deliver it, and the program has been recognized by the federal Department of Justice as a promising practice.

You can help to stop the violence!
