CALLING ALL EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATORS
Help us make a difference in our community.
It is with heavy hearts that we report the passing of Shelly Mascari's husband Phil on November 15th, 2015. Phil was a constant supporter of LPC functions and programs and his presence will be missed. You can read Phil's memorial tribute here.

Updates on the ALL IN Campaign

Open Enrollment for Covered California starts on November 15, 2014. And we need your help in making sure that uninsured children; families; and school, early-learning, and after-school staff get covered.  This is an opportunity for individuals without health coverage to shop and sign up for health plans through Covered California. They may also be eligible for Medi-Cal. There is no time to delay because Open Enrollment is only three months long, ending February 15, 2015!   All In For Health Care

The Power of Partnerships in Early Education
Huffington Post

State Implements New Kindergarten Cut-off Age
Ed Source By Louis Freedberg and Laurie Udesky

For the first time since the state enacted kindergarten legislation in 1891, California children have to be 5 years old by Sept. 1 to enroll in kindergarten.

The new cutoff date follows years of efforts in the state Legislature to move the date students were eligible for kindergarten to be in line with at least 20 other states with a Sept. 1 cutoff date. The others have earlier or later cutoff dates, or leave it up to local school districts to decide. Read More

Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale,
Third Edition (ECERS-3)

The Third Edition of the ECERS is a major revision that introduces innovations in both the content and administration of the scale while retaining the continuity of the two principal characteristics of the ECERS, namely its comprehensive or global definition of quality and the reliance on observation as the primary source of information on which to base assessment of classroom quality. For detailed information go to the ERSI website.

Free Training from CDC

As an early care and education provider, you play a critical role in the health and well being of children. You are also very well positioned to help identify children who might need extra help in their development. This FREE, online training course, Watch Me! Celebrating Milestones and Sharing Concerns, helps you fulfill this role by providing tools and best practices for monitoring the development of children in your care and talking about it with their parents.
