Attendance Awareness Month
September is Attendance Awareness Month. Following are resources to assist in your communication and outreach:
- For making the case: Share Absences Add Up, a state-by-state analysis of national data revealing that students who miss too much school suffer academically at every age and every grade throughout the country. Released on September 2nd and based upon the National Assessment for Educational Progress (NAEP), the report has received media coverage from coast to coast.
-
For inspiring data driven action: Distribute the Attendance Works toolkit, The Power of Positive Connections which calls for using absenteeism records from past years and from the first month of school to connect the most at-risk students to personal relationships and positive supports that motivate them to show up to class every day.

All In for Public Education
Are You All-In for Public Education?
All In for Public Education is a new advocacy resource for those seeking strategies and tactics to build more support for public education. Just about everyone agrees that public schools face more competition than any time in the past. Many also note that there is a well-planned and systematic effort to privatize and dismantle public education. Many pro-public education advocates have begun drawing a line and saying, "Enough is enough."
This new web feature provides resources to inform and take action as an advocate for your schools.
The time to be proactive is now. If education leaders and their supporters don't do it, who will? Check out this new resource which will be updated on a regular basis.

MWorld
MWorld is an online, multimedia, educational program, delivered in app format and built around beautifully presented, interactive content that covers areas of universal appeal and educational value: the Human Body, the Natural World, Space, Art and Music, the Modern World, Animals, Early Civilisations, Language and Culture, People and Places, and the Wonders of Science.
The MWorld developers (Monash University, Australia) are looking for United States teachers in grades 3-6 to pilot the content of MWorld with students and provide feedback to the developers. MWorld is slated for a rollout in Australia and the UK in November, with a North America rollout next Spring. Pilot teachers will receive access to two of the ten content areas of their choice and student usernames and passwords. If you are interested, and have iPads, please contact Tim Gill at tgill@lakecoe.org.
