CALLING ALL EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATORS
Help us make a difference in our community.
QRIS

It is time to address QRIS in Lake County. At our LCP Retreat we made the decision to convene a special meeting to discuss how we can implement QRIS. We will be sending out a survey for a meeting date in the next few weeks so keep watching your emails.

If you have some thoughts that you would like to have addressed in the meeting, please email them to lallen@lakecoe.org.
LPC Meeting Time Change

And the survey says......... Our LPC Meetings will continue be held on the third Thursday of the month; HOWEVER, the time will be changed as follows:
3:30 pm in September, October, November, February & March
6:30 pm in January and April

This new schedule accommodates 100% of the survey responders.  We are offering reimbursement to LPC members that have a Family Child Care and need to pay a substitute in order to attend the meeting. Contact Shelly for more information.

Guest speaker Amber Warner at LPC Retreat

Our LPC Retreat was held October2, 2014 at the Clearlake Bed and Breakfast in Lakeport. Eighteen LPC members gathered to refresh, renew & relax.
Park  Place provided a fall themed lunch of butternut squash soup, pear and apple salad and gorgonzola bread. Amber Warner & Merci Hoskins presented the inspiring and energetic  "Refresh-Recharge-Relax-Rejuvenate" mini-conference which was a treat for all who attended. This is just a small way of saying "Thank You" to all our volunteer members of the Planning Council and a fresh start for our new year.

Building Partnerships: Guide to Relationships with Families (Office of Head Start)

By Maggie Severns / Politico

The Office of Head Start's National Center on Parent, Family, and Community Engagement (NCPFCE) recently published a new resource, Building Partnerships: Guide to Relationships with Families, which explores the role that positive goal-oriented relationships play in effective parent, family, and community engagement. It is intended for the Head Start and Early Head Start community and professionals in the early childhood field. It offers definitions, tools, and guides for reflective practice and supervision. See other recently published resources on NCPFCE's Family Engagement and School Readiness Web page.

SB 837
Latest Develoments by Shelly Mascari

When the School Year ended, we weren't sure where SB837 was going. There were MAJOR modifications tot he Bill and the end result suggests very little changes to what  we are currently doing. SB 837 appeared in the Governor's budget but is still in committee (as of September 9, 2014).

The Bill SB837 has been swept into the clean up Bill AB1480 and will require all TK teachers to have 24 ECE Units (but over a period of time). The Bill is specific with the language: TK teachers who are first assigned to a transitional kindergarten classroom after July 1, 2015, must have, by August 1, 2020, one of the following:

(1) At least 24 units in early childhood education, or childhood development, or both.

(2) As determined by the local educational agency employing the teacher, professional experience in a classroom setting with preschool age children that is comparable to the 24 units of education described in paragraph (1).

(3) A child development teacher permit issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

I will be keeping a close eye on this throughout the month, but it will not affect what we are doing this year.

There have been no additional updates on the addition of LPC's to the budget language, which would require LPC's to provide quality improvement stipend programs similar to AB212 to TK teachers and TK teacher assistants. Lake County would receive an allocation of the $10,000,000 set aside in the Budget Act of 2014 for this purpose. I will provide additional updates as they are available.
