News from our Principal

May 22, 2015

I know that all of you know that we, at Saint Anne Parish School, have amazing students!  Each and every day, I am continuously impressed with the abilities, accomplishments and talents of those in our building.  Our students are given many opportunities to share the different gifts which they possess. Today, I am proud to share a few recent achievements.

The role of the Student Servant Leadership Commission is to give all the students of Saint Anne a voice in how our school is run as we work to develop student leaders.  Under the direction of Mr. Bob Olsen, Mr. Andrew Carter, Miss Jill Johnson, and Miss Katie Parker, this year's members worked well together and worked tirelessly to fulfill their obligations as student servant leaders.  The monthly Make a Difference Day collections resulted in a very generous donation to each of the chosen organizations.  Their leadership was demonstrated through the creation and facilitation of the Meet Me at the Flagpole prayer service, Sharpen the Saw Week and Catholic Schools Week assemblies.  This group of students assisted at the talent show where $200 was raised and the parish food bin was filled with an abundance of items for those in need.  The members of the Student Leadership Commission also attended the Feed My Starving Children site in Schaumburg, and packaged meals for people in Madagascar.  They help all of us at Saint Anne Parish School to live out the example of Jesus, who came to serve and not be served, through their words and actions.  At this time, we thank this year's members for their service.

President Shiva Neelakantan,

This morning, the students of Saint Anne Parish School voted for next year's officers of the Student Leadership Commission.   The following students presented their platforms today:  Aisling Finnegan, Will Graff, Ryan Iannone, Cailin Kozlowski, Miguel Mercado, Emily Nakiganda, Emily O'Donoghue, Meghan O'Donoghue, John O'Neill, Emma Samonek, Zosia Stawiarska, Lily Werner, Madison Wrosz.  We would like to thank all the candidates for writing such eloquent and thoughtful speeches.  The following students will be officers for the 2015-16 school year:

On Saturday, May 9th, Gisela Bischoff attended a ceremony at the Progressive Baptist Church in Chicago for the Illinois Fatherhood Initiative (IFI). Gisela was presented with a certificate, as well as a commemorative coin to give to her father for her winning essay. Out of 10,000+ essay entries, Gisela was one of 156 students (K-12) and one of the 12 Kindergartners that were chosen for this award.

This weekend we celebrate Pentecost Sunday.  May the Holy Spirit strengthen us with wisdom, understanding and knowledge.  I hope that this three day weekend provides you some prayerful and relaxing family time.

Respectfully,

Mrs. Dawn Kapka

News from the School Advisory Board and Home & School Association

CARDINAL PRIDE

PARENTS

(Grade-Level Committee)

The Saint Anne Parish School Advisory Board and Home and School Association have joined forces and created an all-school program called CARDINAL PRIDE. Cardinal Pride is all about building community and school pride among teachers, students and parents across all aspects of the classroom, campus, and SAS Community experience

With this goal in mind, we are renaming and expanding our Room Coordinator responsibilities.  Each grade will have 4-6 Cardinal Pride Parents (CPPs) who will be members of the overall school Cardinal Pride Committee (CPC) within the Home and School Association.

Each grade's Cardinal Pride Committee will be responsible for:

  • Planning and organizing a minimum of 2 grade-level social events during the school year (one child focused, one- adult focused). Social event ideas include:
    • Child-Focused events: Bowling, Roller Skating, Pizza Party, Open Gym Night in School Gym, etc.
    • Adult Events:  Cocktails at a parent's home, table at Parish/School events  Note: Costs for events are to be covered by the attendees not the CPPs
    • Dates for all Cardinal Pride social events must be reviewed by the Home and School Association Vice President in coordination with the school calendar
  • Organizing classroom volunteers for activities such as: parties, classroom helpers, Art, Tech-A-Thon, Field Day, field trips, lunch/recess and Home and School events.
  • Planning and staffing classroom parties with volunteers, crafts, snacks, and games.
  • One Parent will serve as the liaison between each teacher, other CPP's and the CPC (except for Pre-School and Kindergarten where there are two).
  • One Parent is encouraged to attend the Home and School Association Meetings.  These meetings are held one Friday a month in the Hospitality Room immediately after drop off.
As a reminder, all SAS Parent volunteers must be in compliance with the "Protecting God's Children" requirements which include: attending a training session, completing all online VIRTUS updates, an online background check and completion of Code of Conduct and CANTS Form.

Please complete and submit this application to the office by

Superflex® Academy is for children (ages 7-11) who would like to become social heroes by developing their social thinking abilities.  Social thinking is what we do when we interact with other people:

we think about them. How we think affects how we act, which in turn affects our emotions. This social skills group offers a fun, motivating way to help your child become a social leader through:

* A social skills curriculum based on Super Heroes and "Unthinkables"

* Learning practical problem-solving strategies in difficult social situations

* Hands-on activities and role-playing with peers

* Projects that use technology to create social stories

Summer Session: August 3rd - 6th | 9:00 - 11:00 am

Cost: $180 total (initial intake required - done with the child and at least one parent prior to starting the session). Payment plan option is available upon request.
