News from our Principal

Dear Saint Anne Parish School Parent,

As we approach year end... as a Catholic school we have had many deadlines to meet related to our accreditation process.   I am happy to share that we are in full compliance with the Protecting God's Children requirements as we successfully submitted the annual audit in April to the Office for the Protection of Children and Youth.  In addition,  the  Strategic Plan for Catholic Schools, approved by the Archdiocese of Chicago School Board, adopted the AdvancED accreditation process as our focus for school improvement.  Please see the Archdiocese of Chicago news release on our AdvancED recommended accreditation.  For the first time in history, all 240 Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Chicago are accredited through AdvancED.   The Office of Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Chicago  is the first Catholic school system of its size to undertake this process!

Beyond our work related to the AdvancED process, we were selected by the Illinois State Board of Education for an on-site evaluation.  This occurred this past week at Saint Anne Parish School.   We successfully met all requirements for the Nonpublic School Recognition.  We were commended by the team of evaluators on our administrative requirements, facility, curriculum, health/safety, personnel, etc.

As we look to this weekend and next, it is an honor and joy to celebrate and present to the parish community the children of Saint Anne that will join us at the Table of Jesus for the first time to receive the Sacrament of Eucharist.  Led by their parents, families, teachers, and catechists, these children have come to recognize themselves as Disciples of Christ, and have grown in their desire to draw closer to Him.  We look forward to the celebrations of First Eucharist scheduled for these upcoming weekends.  In addition, as a school community, we will gather together on Wednesday, May 27th as both second grade classes host the school liturgy.  The children will be dressed in their beautiful First Communion attire.  They will receive the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ once again, this time, in front of the entire school community.  Prior to the mass, Father Bernie and I will share in a luncheon celebration with these students.

Please continue to hold in your prayers the children named below that will receive this Holy Sacrament.

Respectfully,

Mrs. Dawn Kapka

Principal

Barnes & Noble My Favorite Teacher Essay Contest

Once again, Barnes & Noble invited area schools to participate in the B&N My Favorite Teacher Contest to recognize excellence in teaching.  This contest provided our middle school students with the opportunity to tell our community how much our teachers are appreciated. Earlier this month, the contest celebration was held at the Deer Park B&N store. Our schools' representation was incredible. Many of our teachers were recognized with beautiful essays.  Some of our participating students read his/her essay for the chosen teacher.  We are also very pleased to announce that our school's winning essay was written for Mrs. Torrence by Jillian Vlasek. Thank you to all of our participants.

Mrs. Torrence  by Jillian Vlasak

In my own words, a teacher is a role model. A compassionate, knowledgeable role model that motivates their students to learn the curriculum in a creative way. Mrs. Torrence exhibits all the qualities of a fantastic role model when she teaches math class and that is why she is my favorite teacher.

What makes Mrs. Torrence special is that she can teach my class about math in a fun, creative way and it is always beneficial once test day comes. Being my worst subject, math doesn't always come easy to me. Sometimes it feels like my brain was programmed more for words than numbers. In Mrs. Torrence's class, I can learn about factoring and graphing equations through videos, group work, and fun worksheets. I am truly never bored during her class.

What also makes Mrs. Torrence stand out is her compassionate and positive character. I have never had a teacher more dedicated to helping students. Whenever I don't feel I get the assignments, I can always come in to school early so I can learn the material and feel prepared for the next test. Mrs. Torrence is also very motivating and positive. She helped me see the potential to ace math and now I don't have a single worry going into Geometry next year in high school.

I believe Mrs. Torrence teaches more than math. She teaches students how to grow in becoming a better person spiritually. Whenever Mrs. Torrence is in my presence I know she is always trying to set the best example. The greatest lessons she taught me were not from our text-book, but from the real life lessons she taught.

Mrs. Torrence is more than a teacher. She is a mentor and a role model. She has provided all the knowledge and moral support for my classmates and me to move on into high school. Words cannot express my gratitude for all the preparation she has given me because she has shaped me into the knowledgeable student I am today. Truly, Mrs. Torrence is a teacher that will always have a lasting impression on me. Her continued efforts and hard work have really payed off in my education and life and for that, she will not be forgotten.

STEM Museum Volunteers Needed

Parents & High School or College Students,

We are in need of several volunteers for both morning and afternoon shifts for the 12 station STEM Museum on Monday, May 11. We are asking for volunteers to commit to either a 7:45-11:40am shift or a 11:40am-3pm shift, although any help would be welcome.  High School or College students will receive service hours.

A schedule of classroom times is attached so that volunteers can pick a time when their children will be there.

Please contact Lisa Sadowski at lisarichbrandon@sbcglobal.net for more information or to schedule a convenient time for you.  Spread the word!  We need many volunteers to make the assembly successful for your children's enjoyment.  Once you email me, I'll send you a link describing the different stations, should you care to state a preference.  Thanks again for your help.

Sincerely,

Lisa Sadowski along with Kim D'Amore, Sasa Mo, Jill Johnson
