FROM OUR CEO
Greetings!

Donna Martin

The holiday season is in full gear with trees and decorations out in all the stores and lights starting to go up on houses around the neighborhood. I hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving, and it was wonderful to see so many of you at our BIG Run/Walk last Saturday. We had a great time, and even though it was cold, there were lots of smiling faces crossing the finish line. We also collected many items for Hurricane Sandy victims. We'd like to give a special thank you to Ameren who partnered with us to collect the items for Sandy victims and all of you who came out and donated. It was a fantastic event and a good way to burn off some of those Thanksgiving calories!

Don't forget to order great holiday gifts from our Fall Product Program. The candies, nuts and magazine subscriptions make fun gifts for everyone on your list. Girls will be selling items at booths through December 9. Visit our website to find a booth near you!

The White House has a fun and educational challenge for all of your girls who love playing with apps on their smartphones. The Equal Futures App Challenge asks girls to create an app that promotes civic education and/or inspires other girls to serve as leaders in our democracy. Girls must submit their apps by January 12, so if your girls are looking for something fun to do on their holiday break, be sure to tell them about this wonderful opportuntiy. Visit http://equalfutures.challenge.gov/ for more information.

I would also like to let everyone know that our Council office and Girl Scout Shop will be closing at 11 am on Friday, December 14. We will resume our normal hours on Monday, December 17, so be sure to stop by and get some gifts for your favorite Girl Scout. Our office will be closed again from December 22-January 1 for the holidays.

Best Wishes,

Generations for a Healthy Community Student Exhibition

Dec. 4, 5-6:30 pm @ Fairview Intermediate School, Jennings

Please join us to show your support for students who are working for change through the GSEM and OASIS partnership program - Generations for a Healthy Community. This program unites volunteers with children in grades 4-6 to join forces in advocating local healthy eating and an active living policy and environment to create solutions to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic.

The event includes dinner and door prizes. For more information, contact Michelle Johnson, 314.592.2344, mjohnson@girlscoutsem.org.

"Carol for a Cause" this Holiday Season

Make plans for your troop to go caroling this season. It's a special way to celebrate the holidays by bringing joy to listeners in December while collecting funds to help area children throughout the new year. Donations collected will go to help 4+ metro St. Louis agencies, including Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri.

Troops choose their caroling date and location, singing in your neighborhood, school or church community.

Girls may also carol at Lambert Airport, shopping centers such as The Boulevard in Richmond Heights, The Meadows in Lake St. Louis, the Schnucks on The Hill, Soulard Market and other public locations. Check the website for a current list.

To participate, call 314.863.1225 and you'll be connected with your Area Chairman who will schedule your caroling and provide supplies, including a collection can, song sheets and logos. Or, visit www.stlchristmascarols.org and submit your information on the form found us on the "Join Us" page. Caroling satisfies requirements for Seasons of Giving.

For questions, email stlcca@att.net.

Note: Girl Scouts have caroled for St. Louis Christmas Carols Association for many years and is one of the recipients of funds raised. Girl members may carol and supervising adults are responsible for taking donations. For more information, see the Blue Books of Basic Documents, 2012 edition, Solicitation of Contributions, p.21.
