A message from the NJAHPERD JRFH/HFH Coordinator...
Hello all Jump and Hoops Coordinators,
Hope you are getting ready for the up coming Winter Break!
Please remind your students that when they are " Home for the Holidays" exercise and hydration are very important. Outside activities like, horizontal jumping jacks in the snow, throwing snowballs for accuracy and measuring how far they throw are great outside activities and they are FUN! All outside activity is a good way to elevate our heart rate and get in that 60 minutes of activity that we need every day.
The American Heart Association and the NFL are proud to come together to create the free NFL PLAY 60 app, empowering kids to get active and healthy. The app encourages players to get their 60 minutes of daily recommended physical movement in a virtual adventure by running, jumping and pivoting with device in hand. Available for iOS and Android. Download it today.
I hope if you have begun to get ready for your event, started your event or have finished your event, which I have, that you have success with it and fun. Harrison Township Elementary, in South Jersey, Gloucester County, has raised over $17,500. this year. The Principal and Vice Principal wore Dog Costumes and ate lunch out of Dog Bowls on stage with the Top 5 Donation Earners from each grade level. At the Finale Celebration that day, our Regional AHA Coordinator, Danielle Mc Mahon arrived with Jim Presbrey and Brandon Hines. Brandon, a high school junior, spoke to our students and Jim presented the principal with some playground balls for all to enjoy at recess. The event brought our event to an end but our students are still wearing their "PUPS" and asking when the next ones will arrive.
Have fun with your event and coax a colleague in another school to host one this year. It will benefit you and them. Who doesn't like US Games Certificates for Free Equipment that you can choose???
Merry Fitness and a
Healthy New Year,
Mickey S. Fox

Eating Mindfully Through the Holiday Season
It's the holidays and for most Americans, that means eating - lots of eating - followed by weight gain and a New Year's resolution to lose it.
But why not take a healthier approach to what we eat during this holiday season and beyond? |
Keeping Up Workouts in Cold Weather
There's no reason you need to take a break from physical activity when the temperature drops. Winter's chill can make you feel awake and invigorated.

Workout Safety during the Winter Months
As active people, the winter months can sometimes put a damper on our usual outdoor workouts. But, if we're safe and prepared, we don't have to give up our time outdoors completely. Working out in the cold can be perfectly safe, as long as we are smart about it. MORE

Create a 2016 Fitness Bucket List now
As we wrap up another year, it's time to start thinking about what we did and did not accomplish in 2015. Sometimes, we start a year off with great hopes about what the new year will bring. "I'll finally get in shape." "This is the year I'll go to the gym before work every day." "Nothing but healthy foods for me this year." While we look to the new year with good intentions, we often let our day-to-day get in the way. MORE
