A message from your president |

I would like to thank you all for attending all NJAHPERD workshops and conferences in 2014. NJAHPERD has tried to provide you with the latest trends in educating you in your profession to help you continue to maintain a quality health education and physical education program.
As you know our next big event is the 96th annual NJAHPERD Convention in Long Branch. Pre-convention starts on Sunday, February 22nd with FOUR outstanding sessions. Monday, February 23rd and Tuesday, February 24th we have two full days of over 100 sessions with something for everyone in the teaching profession from Pre-K to Higher Education. I can honestly say with the sessions we have planned this year I personally need five days to take it all in (that is why we have FLASHDRIVES for you). 1. Family Physical Activity Night
Designate a weekly "Family Fitness Day." Pick a physical activity (i.e. walking, bicycling, jogging, etc.) that everyone can enjoy.
2. Exercise Video Night
When there's a chill in the air, invite the entire family to warm up with an exercise DVD. Families that sweat together are healthy together!
3. Family Choice Night
Take turns having each family member select their favorite physical activity, and everyone participates.
4. Active Commercial Breaks
During each commercial, challenge each family member to complete a round of moves (i.e. 10 jumping jacks, 20 air jump ropes, 20 sit ups, 15 squats, 10 push-ups, 15 lunges).

Free Driver Education Programs and Resources | NJAHPERD  As a result of the Driver Education Conferences, NJAHPERD members will now be provided with free monthly resources and speakers for your classroom. Working roadside is a dangerous and sometimes deadly job. That's why when motorists see flashing lights on the side of the road, they're required to slow down and if it's safe, move over -- away from police, fire crews, paramedics, tow truck drivers, and DOT workers. The M.A.R.C. campaign, founded in memory of New Jersey State Trooper Marc Castellano who was struck and killed in 2010 while conducting a criminal investigation on the shoulder of I-195 by an individual who failed to adhere to New Jersey's Move Over Law, provides in school presentations to ensure all new drivers know and adhere to this lifesaving provision. Grants | SHAPE America JRFH/HFH Grant Program The Joint Projects office is currently accepting applications for the 2015 SHAPE America JRFH/HFH Grant Program. The SHAPE America JRFH & HFH Grant is available only to individuals who have completed a JRFH or HFH event in the prior school year.
All 2015 grantees will receive: - $1,300 professional development stipend to attend the 2015 SHAPE America National Convention & Expo in Seattle, WA from March 17-21, 2015. The stipend may be used towards convention registration, travel, lodging and/or per diem. - One-year SHAPE America membership (if you are not a current SHAPE America member) and (1) copy of the 2014 National Standards & Grade-Level Outcomes for K-12 Physical Education - $1,200 US Games gift certificate redeemable for equipment to enhance your school's physical education program. The gift voucher will be presented at the 2015 SHAPE America National Convention & Expo in Seattle, WA. Download the grant application.
Fund for Teachers: Grants The Fund for Teachers provides funds for direct grants to teachers to support summer learning opportunities of their own design. Maximum award: $5,000. Eligibility: teachers who work with students in grades pre-kindergarten through 12, with a minimum of three years teaching experience, full-time, spending at least 50 percent of the time in the classroom at the time grants are approved and made. Deadline: January 29, 2015.
NGA/Mantis: 2015 Mantis Tiller Award The National Gardening Association/ Mantis Tiller Awards offer tiller/cultivators to educational gardens that enhance quality of life in their host communities. Maximum award: Mantis Tiller/Cultivator with border/edger and kickstand, and choice of gas-powered 2-cycle engine or electric motor. Eligibility: not-for-profit charitable or educational garden programs in the United States. Deadline: March 6, 2015. Read more
