| Healthy Sweets!
Lots of holidays coming up. Can we be mindful of our health and still enjoy ourselves? Certainly...at least we can give it a good try.
There are 6 tastes in Ayurveda. Tastes and their effect are second only to water in terms of importance in the balancing Ayurveda diet.
W need all 6 tastes every day, but the tastes have different effects on people's digestions depending on which dosha is currently out-of-balance. Once you know which dosha to balance (inventory), favor the tastes to balance, i.e Vata is balanced by sweet, sour, and salty. You can find more dosha-balancing foods and tips here.

The sweet taste builds and nourishes tissue. That is so different from the effect of typical processed sugary sweet treats that we tend to see in front of us this time of year. They can be so tempting but processed sugar and corn syrup products inflame and destroy tissue rather than build it. Many grains, fruits, and vegetables offer the sweet taste. But this time of year sometimes we want special treats.
Instead of grabbing for the quick up-energy of sugary treats that then goes down, the Ayurveda treats in this eNews offer slow, steady energy that nourishes us. By preparing some of these you can squeeze out the prevalence of sugary sweet treats for the holidays. Need to take a dish to pass? You might be surprised at how folks reach for the healthy treat.
Joy is an important influence on our health---so don't be so strict--allow yourself joy in this season.
Live with radiant intention and be well, Rhonda

salt to taste
2 cups nuts may include:
- walnut halves
- cashew halves
- pistachios
- almonds

Directions:
1. Line baking sheet with foil. Lightly oil foil. Heat 2 tablespoons oil in large nonstick skillet over medium heat.
2. Add ginger, curry powder, cayenne pepper and whatever spices you are using; sauté until fragrant, about 5 seconds. Stir in sugar and honey. Add nuts. Stir until honey mixture is amber in color and nuts are well coated, about 6 minutes.
