The mission of the El Paso County Medical Society is to advocate for and support the physicians of our community. The changes in our community, as well as the changes in the broader health care landscape, have made it imperative that our organization adapt to this environment.

In examining the current bylaws, your leadership found several processes and structures that are out of alignment with current best practices. Additionally, some efficiencies and clarifications would streamline operations and promote flexibility at the Board level. The proposed revisions would accomplish this through:

• Allowing administrative approval of membership applications instead of a Board vote streamlining the process (Article II.E)
• Permit flexibility in membership participatory processes in response to situations (Article IV. K-M)
• Restructure our Board of Directors to align with research into the best governance structures to support associations and their members (Article V, B-M), (Article VII, B), (Article X)

Among the items to be determined at this meeting, the membership will be voting on the proposed changes to the Bylaws of El Paso County Medical Society.   The EPCMS Board of Directors favorably reported these changes to the membership, and they will be voted on at the September 17, 2014, meeting of the membership. 

Coming soon- Caroline Hedges, MD, MPH, is joining her father, Dr. Roy Stringfellow, and Dr. Christine Ryan at Advanced Obstetrics and Gynecology.  Returning to her hometown of Colorado Springs, she will be providing comprehensive women's care (both OB and GYN), and specializes in minimally invasive GYN surgery including hysterectomies.
