Greetings!  

Summer weather is upon us and wonderful changes are in the air and around the studio. As Jackie and I reflect upon the 10 year evolution of the studio and our greater yoga community we find this thought below pertinent and insightful to our studios future expansion.

Over the years Mountain Yoga, (formerly BYS), with the help of your support, has risen to Jackie and Alex's initial intention; to create a south valley sanctuary where people from all walks of life could come together to better themselves and their communities. As we move forward into the future Mountain Yoga is committed to the challenges that growth and change can bring. While we maintain a commitment to our foundational beginner hot yoga classes we are expanding our vision to include more wonderful classes to aid all students in their understanding of health and wellness. These classes are opportunities for you, the practitioner, to become more interested in your approach, alignment, intention, and breath control while practicing and living. Committing to the above will help steer you on a path of sustainability. Although consistency and intensity are important for change, when one practices without intelligence and intention their efforts can be futile and unsustainable. We envision a space where practitioners come to their mat and explore the many movements of their body and in time begin to feel the powerful connection between their mind and body. Once connected, your yoga practice becomes the canvas from which you have the freedom to express yourself and create what is healthy for you. Guidance is important, yet personal conviction is essential, to becoming the person you envision.

SUMMER PREGNANCY YOGA PROGRAM

Pre & Post Natal. Newborn babies welcome!

June 1st- July 31st

Every Tuesday 2:00-3:15pm &

Every Saturday 12:00-1:15pm

 

This prenatal/postnatal class combines strength training, body awareness, and stress reduction to help you prepare mentally and physically for childbirth and motherhood.  Safe for all stages of pregnancy.  The strengthening of the pelvic floor and abdominal muscles helps us prepare for childbirth and restores the core postnatally.  This is the perfect class to learn to listen to and trust inner guidance and natural instincts as we embrace our changing bodies and connect to the breath more fully.  You will improve you concentration, self control, and flexibility while expanding your circle of community support.  New mommas we welcome you to bring in your little babies to join us. This class will not be practiced in a heated room.

As a mountain guide, I have been sharing yoga with people in a mountain setting for years now leading yoga ski trips, yoga rock climbing adventures, and teaching yoga whenever I can on mountaineering trips around the world in places like Denali, Nepal, Indonesia, and locally here in Utah.  I started doing yoga 12 years ago after I had been guiding for several years.  It has helped me save my body from the pounding I was imposing on it carrying heavy packs and climbing around.  Through yoga I have learned how to listen to my body, how to breath more fully, and how to calm my mind in a way that makes everything I do in life more vibrant.
I did my first yoga training in Nepal, which was a 200hr intensive month long training.  I went into the training directly after guiding a 3 week trip over there where I had worked myself into a very painful back problem.  I was hoping to heal it in the training and greatfully it worked.  Where I could not bend over or move my back at all in the beginning, by the end I could fold myself in half and had more flexibility than ever in my life.  I realized the power we have to heal our own bodies with yoga, nutrition, and meditation.  
I have since participated in Anusara style trainings where I feel greatful to have learned very specific alignment techniques, and most recently an 80hr Prenatal Yoga Teacher training.  I am currently pregnant with my first child and have found the yoga to be so powerful and special during this time.  It is a transformative period for the body, mind and soul, and yoga helps make this transformation more beautiful and special.  I am so looking forward to sharing this with you pregnant moms and new moms in the upcoming Prenatal/Postnatal classes at Mountain Yoga Sandy!

Taught by Stacy Peterson

Stacy has been teaching kids yoga in the Alta community for 6 years and is excited to share her knowledge with the children of Mountain Yoga. She believes that teaching yoga to children provides them with important tools to achieve success in an ever changing world. These benefits include; increased confidence and self esteem, improved awareness of self and others, increased focus, and the ability to manage and reduce stress in all aspects of life.  
Stacy studied and received her certification from Dana Baptiste and went on to complete her Kids Yoga Certification with Brandi Allen.

 

Her classes incorporate her knowledge of modern dance, yoga, and the natural world to provide students with a fun and challenging experience. In addition to Yoga, Stacy works one on one with kids to improve test scores, improve athletic performance and to navigate divorce and the many pressures of adolescence.

 

Stacy is an avid Outdoor Enthusiast, Hypnotherapist and Holistic Health Coach. She is currently studying diet and nutrition and is constantly seeking to further her knowledge of Yoga, Health and Wellness. She feels honored and blessed to be joining the Mountain Yoga Community and for the opportunity to share her knowledge and passion of Yoga.

Ghosh/Sanchez Intermediate Core-40 Class with Alex
  
Based on the classic
Alex with Tony Sanchez
al 84 asanas of the Ghosh lineage, this 90 minute  class includes 40 wonderful asanas. This class will include familiar and new postures alike. Warm up your body with salutations as you develop intention for your daily practice. Ground to the earth in the floor series as you explore the possibilities of your upper body with playful armstands.  Balance your spine and strengthen your core with some deep restorative stretches, twisting and abdominal work. This class will help you learn more about the importance of postural alignment. - Realign and redefine. All levels are welcomed. Regulars are encouraged. Practice is in a warm room.
  
Core 26+ with Julie

The Core 26+ Class is a 90 minute class that utilizes the Beginner Hot Yoga Class as a foundation from which grow. Julie will lead you through additional postures that will introduce you to your upper body strength, deeper leg and back stretches,  hips openers and all important abdominal core work. Come practice with Julie as she guides you through the importance of form before depth and maintain your interest with infinite possibilities.  Class is practiced in a warm environment. All levels are welcome.

Do not leave valuables visible in your car during class. Especially early morning and late nights when it is dark outside. Full parking lots are an attraction to those looking.
