As members of this greater yoga community, Jackie and I would like to address the most recent allegations towards Bikram Choudhury regarding both sexual harassment and his unfair business practices. We would like everyone to know we do not support, condone or approve of the alleged behavior of Bikram Choudhury. Our focus has been and always will be on the healing benefits of this lineage of hatha yoga. We will continue to ensure that our independently owned studio is a safe and a supportive sanctuary for healing the body and mind.
After more than a decade as practitioners, teachers, and directors of a Bikram Yoga studio we have witnessed the transformative powers of this Ghosh yoga lineage, both locally and worldwide. However, over the last handful of years, our ability to focus solely on the strengths of the practice has been challenged for many reasons. First of all, the Bikram Yoga community has been negatively affected and therefore, divided, by Bikram Choudhury's unfair business practices and fear tactics. And now, and most importantly, he is being accused of sexually violating one (possibly many) of his teachers. This is where we, as individuals and studio owners, cannot and will not stand behind Bikram Choudhury or his teacher training.
We have not resolved exactly what this holds for the future of Bikram Yoga Sandy. However, we do know that we are committed to creating a safe and transformative environment to explore the healing benefits of this great yoga lineage.
Although change can be very difficult know that Jackie and I are only looking for greater and greater ways in which to improve our selves, our studio and our community as a whole. Through these difficult times we can envision in the not too distant future an even better studio experience for all of you.
We thank all of you for your support and concern.
Sincerely, Alex and Jackie Wheeler
Directors of Bikram Yoga Sandy
