NEWS FROM OUR YOGA COMMUNITY                              March/April 2013

Greetings!

In life and in yoga practice it is always good to maintain a certain level of discernment. As we move through our hectic lives it behooves us to slow down and reflect upon our path. Is the ground below our feet stable and are we open to the expansive possibilities of the future? Allowing for stability and mobility in equal fashion will help make room for growth both in mind and body. Taking the time to connect with the ground as you walk and as you practice, will provide you the necessary stability you need in order to obtain greater mobility. In Sanskrit this relationship is known as sthira (stability) and sukha (mobility). Balancing the two with discernment is the key to a successful practice. When we back bend and feel the compression of our spine we should also maintain awareness between navel and tailbone. In this way the front of the body counter acts the backside of the body. Maintaining this intelligent approach is in essence discernment. In other words it is best not to put all of your eggs in one basket. Constantly reinforcing all of your mobile areas (one basket) and unconsciously avoiding the tight regions of your body (the potential baskets) will lead to an unbalanced practice.

Take the time in your daily practice and seek out your unconscious patterns of movement.  Move slowly and observe how you recruit certain muscle groups and ignore others in order to perform any one asana. Are you sacrificing your skeletal alignment and ignoring certain muscle groups to achieve a posture?  Take your time to maintain the alignment of your skeletal system, breathe and allow the muscles to balance.....the full expression of the posture will arrive in time. The muscles that are being ignored most often present the greatest opportunities from which to grow your practice.

Wishing you a happy spring!

YOGIS GIVE  BACK is an event when all the yoga studio owners in Utah get together to celebrate our diverse and amazing yoga community. It is also an opportunity for us to raise funds for organizations that need yoga.

This year their fundraising efforts will go toward implementing 5 minute yoga break sessions in 12 (YES 12!) Utah Elementary Schools!

We are inviting YOU to make a difference and join Bikram Yoga Sandy at the fundraising event! Our very own Alex Wheeler will be one of many instructors in the valley leading this yoga celebration.

The intention is to raise $6,000 for 12 schools with the donation of $500 each going toward implementing and supplying them with what they need for a successful program.

All proceeds will go toward implementing the "GreenTREE Yoga Five Minute Yoga Break Programs" and furnishing volunteers for schools along the Wasatch Front. See The Green Tree Yoga's Website for more details.

  A SPECIAL ACCESS CONSCIOUSNESS™ CLASS
APRIL 13TH 12PM-2PM
"How to Create Ease On and Off the Yoga Mat-Releasing Judgement of You, Your Body and the Torture You put Yourself Through"

Nope, this is not a yoga class... This is a class that will give you a handful of pragmatic, juicy tools to apply to your practice and your life, that just make life easier. Julie uses the tools of Access ConsciousnessTM to give you greater awareness, and clear out the judgements, and the points of view from which you create the struggle in your life. That's right, you created it. The brilliant part is, you can "uncreate" it too! Any area of your life that isn't easy or joyful, is an area where you are lacking consciousness or awareness. Would you be willing to have a yoga practice without the struggle? Do you do a litany of judgement on yourself and your body everytime you walk into the yoga room?
What if you didn't have to?
Your point of view creates your reality. What point of view have you taken that creates a dis-ease? Would you be willing to let it go? This will be a light hearted, fun class aimed at giving you a freedom in your life and your practice that you may or may not know is possible, and haven't been able to access yet.

Early Bird registration fee - $30 through April 6th
After April 6th -$40

BYS will donate 100% of proceeds to Semilla Nueva. Click on the image below to visit their website and learn more. Semilla Nueva was started by BYS's very own student Brook Golling. Although Brook loves to play in the mountains he decided years back to travel south to Guatemala and help the people and their land. Jackie and Alex both have great admiration for what he and his co-workers are doing!

In addition Brook and his mother both started their yoga practice with Jackie's first teacher in Oregon.  It is Amazing to experience all of the connections in life! We hope you all can come to class and support their mission.
