A Case for Smiles
During the weeks of 9/14 and 9/21 the students at VFMS will be doing their part to support a good cause. A Case for Smiles (caseforsmiles.org), formerly known as ConKerr Cancer, is an organization that is dedicated to helping sick children cope with the stress of their illnesses and injuries. Volunteers help make whimsical pillowcases that give children an emotional boost during a tough time. The organization was originally started to honor the memory of former Valley Forge student Ryan Kerr.
On Thursday, September 17th Case for Smiles will be having its 1 Millionth Pillowcase Celebration. Students will be able to purchase a sticker to show their support. The sticker will cost a minimum of a $1.00 - anything additional is welcome. By purchasing this sticker, students are then able to participate in PJ Day on Friday, September 18th. Students are still expected to wear pajamas that are appropriate for school. Long flannel pants and t-shirts or sweatshirts will be the most acceptable attire. Please, NO SLIPPERS!
On Friday night, at the 7th and 8th grade Welcome Back Dance, students will still be able to donate to the cause. A collection jar will be placed at the snack table. The dance is not a PJ dance. Regular, casual attire is expected to be worn at the dance.
Collections will continue the following week.
Case for Smiles and the Valley Forge community thank you in advance for your support!

PAYS Information
The Pennsylvania Youth Survey will be administered to students in 6th and 8th grades on Wednesday, September 30. This anonymous survey asks questions about the perceptions and behaviors of our youth. It does include questions about violence, weapons usage, and substance use. Due to this content, the parents of 6th grade students must give consent in order for their children to participate.
This week, a letter is being mailed home to the parents of 6th and 8th grade students with more detailed information about the survey. The District has participated in the PA Youth Survey for many years, and the information gleaned from it has influenced our educational program and curriculum planning. The results are shared with the community in order to identify strengths, areas of concern and strategies for improvement. Parents may view the entire 2015 survey at T/E Middle School or at the PA Youth Survey website. If you have any questions once you receive the letter, please contact Assistant Principal Dr. Jacquelyn Hickey, at 610-240-1307 or hickeyj@tesd.net. |
