Volunteer

Executive VP to shadow the current President with a view to taking over the following school year, a shadow to our current VP Communications and Volunteers and replacements for our VP Issues and Affairs and VP Cultural Arts.  In addition to these, we are really keen to recruit who would share the responsibility for producing the VFMS PTO weekly blast.  We also have a few other openings, both big and small.  If you are interested or wish to find out more information, kindly contact Sarah Culbert or Kathy Wynn.  You can access the full list of vacancies by clicking here.

Summer Reading Books Announced!

Summer will be here before we know it.  That means fun in the sun and summer reading for everyone at VFMS.  Students entering 5th and 6th grade in the fall of 2014 will all be reading one book this summer:   Half a Chance by Cynthia Lord.   Students entering 7th and 8th grades in the fall of 2014 will be reading two books:  Touch Blue by Barnes & Noble Cynthia Lord and Okay for Now by Gary Schmidt.   Stop by Barnes and Noble on Saturday, May 17th and Sunday, May 18th during normal store hours, and pick up a copy during the VFMS PTO sponsored Book Fair.   The VFMS PTO receives a portion of the proceeds from all sales for the two days.  Fliers with the Book Fair voucher will be sent home a few days before the event, or mention the VFMS Book Fair to the book seller at check out if you do not have the voucher.  The Book Fair is also available online at www.BN.com from May 17, 2014- May 23, 2014.   Enter the Book Fair id code 11347754 at check out.   Thanks for your support.

Golden Apple Grants

Do you know what a Golden Apple Grant is?  Ever heard of them?  Well, here is your chance to find out!  The VFMS PTO has created a fund to support outstanding and innovative programs, ideas and/or purchases which will enrich the educational experience at VFMS.  The golden apple standard Golden Apple Grant is $200 and typically up to 10 grants will be made available during each school year.

Do you have an idea we can support?  We are accepting grant applications now for the 2013-14 school year.  Any member of the VFMS community is welcome to apply including teachers, staff, administrators, parents and of course students.  The PTO Board will review submitted applications and grant recipients will be notified and receive funds on a 'first come, first served' basis until all budgeted funds have been allocated.

Please send completed applications to Tarina Mahtab

via email or by hardcopy to the PTO mailbox in the VFMS main office.  Questions?  Please contact Tarina.

Once again the PTO is so very grateful for our fantastic parents who jump in to help with our various events.  We would like to thank Cathy Buttenbaum for organizing our Handel's fundraising event.  The weather did not cooperate but Cathy did a fantastic job!

Trish McFillin stepped in to organize our very successful Hershey Park ticket drive. With Trish's leadership we sold over $20,000 in tickets which will earn approximately $3,500 for the PTO
