Earth Day
Tuesday, April 22nd

We, the 7th Grade Leadership Seminar, would like to encourage all students at Valley Forge Middle School to celebrate Earth Day by wearing green (or an Earth Day themed costume)!

The homeroom with the highest percentage of people wearing green will receive free frozen yogurt from the cafeteria.  Frozen yogurt will also be awarded to the students who most creatively promote Earth Day by wearing the most green or an Earth Day costume.  Faculty judges will chose the top 3 students from each grade at lunch on April 22nd.  Each of these 12 students will also receive a free frozen yogurt.

Teachers will be doing their part by cutting back on energy usage as much as possible in their classes.

In addition, Whirled Peace in Paoli will be donating 15% of their sales from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Earth Day, April 22nd, to the World Wildlife Fund.  Please show your support for environmental efforts by visiting Whirled Peace and enjoying their tasty drinks, frozen yogurt, and other treats.  YOU HAVE TO BRING THE EARTH DAY FLYER with you so they can keep track of the amount of their donation.  These flyers are available in the main office, outside room 615a, as well as on the VFMS page and Mrs. Clemmer's teacher page, or by clicking on this link to Mrs. Clemmer's

Check out the links to Whirled Peace and the World Wildlife Fund.

The 24 Competition is Coming for Our 6th Graders!!  Need Volunteers!

To Volunteer - Click Here!

It is just a few short weeks until our 6th graders will be involved in our annual "24 Game School Tournament".  "24" is a critical thinking game in which students must make mental computations and find patterns. Math

The VFMS 6th Grade 24 competition is coming Friday, April 25th.  Volunteers will need to be available from 12:15 - 2:30 p.m. on the day of the event. The proctors will oversee the game and will help tally scores at the end of each round.

WE NEED YOU - without the support of approximately 50-60 volunteers, we are unable to hold the competition.

We are accepting proctors immediately-- MARK YOUR CALENDARS now and decide if you are able to help us out! We will certainly take more than one family member from each household. In the past, we have had aunts, uncles, grandparents, and college-aged siblings, who themselves participated in this fantastic event in middle school-make it a family event!!!

Your child doesn't need to be in 6th grade for you to volunteer.   Parents who wish to proctor should simply click below and fill out the online form.  If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Allison Long

IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO VOLUNTEER!

Golden Apple Grants

Do you know what a Golden Apple Grant is?  Ever heard of them?  Well, here is your chance to find out!  The VFMS PTO has created a fund to support outstanding and innovative programs, ideas and/or purchases which will enrich the educational experience at VFMS.  The golden apple standard Golden Apple Grant is $200 and typically up to 10 grants will be made available during each school year.

Do you have an idea we can support?  We are accepting grant applications now for the 2013-14 school year.  Any member of the VFMS community is welcome to apply including teachers, staff, administrators, parents and of course students.  The PTO Board will review submitted applications and grant recipients will be notified and receive funds on a 'first come, first served' basis until all budgeted funds have been allocated.

Please send completed applications to Tarina Mahtab

via email or by hardcopy to the PTO mailbox in the VFMS main office.  Questions?  Please contact Tarina.

Much Gratitude!

Thank you to everyone who helped with the installation of our mural of The Five Elements. It thrills us that so many of you stopped to admire and compliment and comment and help by putting up tile, grouting or polishing. We have many special thank you's to express!

Our most hearty thanks goes to the VFMS PTO and the
wonderful parents who volunteered tirelessly and supported the project financially.  Much gratitude to the custodial staff for patience with our mess making and support with
unexpected supplies and assistance that we needed.

Thank you to Matt Gibson for supporting this project, letting us take down the showcases and lights and being flexible about every aspect of it.

Thank you to Jacqui Hickey for getting the plaque made so quickly and beautifully.

Thank you to Julia Falasco for getting us coverage when we needed it most and for sending parents down to help when they thought they'd just stopped in to drop off lunch or a forgotten project.

Thank you to teachers who allowed students to miss parts of class to help with installation.

Thank you to Shauna Hardy, James Alvarez and Trevor Johnson for recycling 400 pounds of red clay for this project.

Thank you to Allison Long who was a very good sport about us blocking her doorway and taking down her signage and using her room for storage overnight.

Thank you to Chloe Beltran who was a key helper in all kinds of big and small ways when she volunteered for weeks just for the joy of being around art and artists.

Thank you to all the students who helped to make 5,000 amazing clay tiles.

And most of all, thank you to Rhoda Kahler who worked miracles with those 5,000 tiles and changed it from a middle school art project to a world class art installation!

The Art Department feels supported and appreciated by you all.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Love,
