Meet Teacher of the Week
Colleen O'Hara
Colleen O'Hara has recently returned from maternity leave to resume her position as 5th Grade Blue Team English and Social Studies Teacher at VFMS where she has taught for 7
 years. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from West Chester University and a Master's Degree in Education with a Reading Specialist concentration from Cabrini College. She is married to Casey with two daughters, Molly aged two and six month old Morgan. In an interview with the PTO, Mrs O'Hara shared the following information.

Each parent coffee will be graciously hosted at the home of one of our VFMS families. Parents in each respective grade are invited to attend the coffee which will last about an hour and will include remarks from our school administrators and grade level teachers regarding the curriculum and activities that your child(ren) will participate in during the fall semester. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and meet fellow parents in your child's grade.

Kiwi Fundraiser - SWEET!
On Thursday, October 10th Kiwi Yogurt in the Gateway Shopping Center, will be hosting a fundraising event to benefit VFMS! Kiwi will donate 15% of sales from 4:30 p.m. - 9:00  p.m. Stop by on your way home from afternoon sports or following dinner for a sweet treat and help VFMS!
In order to receive the 15%, guests must present this flyer at the time of purchase. Copies of the flyer will also be distributed to students at school a few days prior. Do you know others who love Kiwi as much as we do? Feel free to print the flyer and give copies to your friends!

Middle School for Dummies
Back by popular demand...The VFMS PTO Board is pleased to be hosting its second annual MS for Dummies on Wednesday, October 2nd in the Audion from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Aimed at parents new to the school but open to anybody who would like to hear more about how VFMS works, we will aim to demystify life in Middle School. In order to ensure we cover
 the areas of greatest concern and/or bewilderment, we would love to receive any questions and issues prior to the meeting. Kindly email them to Sarah Culbert, noting MS for Dummies in the subject line, and we will do our best to answer these in the session. As well as some 'old-time' parents, we will have Jacqui Hickey, Assistant Principal, on hand to answer questions about attendance and athletics. Please sign up here if you wish to attend.

Shire's Big Give
On Friday, October 4th and Saturday, October 5th Shire Pharmaceuticals will host its SIXTH annual BIG GIVE at Wilson Farm Park. Donations will be accepted in support of
 Cradles to Crayons, a nonprofit that directly assists children and families in need across Southeastern PA. Please take this opportunity to clean out your closet and MAKE A DONATION through Shire's BIG GIVE. Donations accepted Friday, October 4th from 12 - 8 pm or Saturday October 5th from 9am - 4pm. This year, Cradles to Crayons had a great need for boys' pants - from newborn through size 18/20. If you have boys pants, please put those in a separate bag and contact Frani Aufiero to coordinate an early drop off by October 3rd. Shire will present all boys pants at the Big Give Kick Off on Oct. 4th. |
